Love the confidence, Swede!  Doesn't that sting?  I know it has when I've done it!

We've got aphabetical hints.  Geographical hints.  But no geometric hints.  Is the lake trapezoidal-shaped?

It is a hit-or-miss sort of thing with no guarantees.  Best to optimize your chances by focusing on areas of moose habitat like the broad swampy areas.  Additionally, if you can locate some higher ground to help spot them...but that's tough to do in a swamp.

The reason your chances are good along the road is because you are covering a ton of ground compared to walking or in a canoe.  But the experience of seeing one when on foot or in the canoe is quite rewarding compared to driving up on it.

Do expect bugs in late May.  A week or two earlier and you will see fewer, but there may be spots or days where they can be menacing and the closer to June you get the greater the possibility of them to approach 'fierce'.  Probably don't need a bug shelter, but certainly some concentrated DEET (40%) and long sleeved shirts and long pants with cuffs that can be secured and a bug-net hat will provide some relief.  Also, being out on the water or exposed to the wind helps and a smoky fire when on land can also be of assistance in the worst times.  They're rarely constant at that time of year...but when you're on land around camp or on a portage they seem to sense your vulnerability!

Get up super early and explore the swamps from about 1/2 hour before sunrise and then again around dusk - but those areas can be beautiful all day long.  Moose are most active in the morning and evening but they don't wear watches so they could pop up any time.

Historically the cabins have been difficult to book - supply/demand; I thought they were a 6-month advance booking in the past but definitely know they were always a challenge to be in the front of the line.

Typical strategies would help - booking for low-demand times like June or Sept.-Oct, during the week, etc.

It does look like a very well-worn path and potentially even cart-path.  Near an access point, is my prediction.  The bay looks a little small for Proulx...but my memory is about as sharp as a brick.

That one could be repeat-printed on vinyl and used as a wallpaper border!  How cool would that be in a gameroom or den?

I've always enjoyed panoramics or stitched photos in various dimensions.  I used to have a free software that would automatically stitch them together and save them but it is no longer supported.  Browsing them was always interesting - although my eye was naturally drawn to the 'seams' to inspect them for perfection - I typically was satisfied enough to enjoy the full image.

What took it to the next level for us is when we sent them to a photo-printing site and had board-mounted pictures made of them.  We now have five or six of them adorning our walls - with images from the Tetons to Prague city views - it's a great way to enjoy the photographs routinely and reminisce of our visits and views.

The very long and slender images sometimes end up looking a bit odd, so I try to 'double-stack' the images to gain more height and perspective.  Regardless, they can make for some very interesting compositions.

Flash is dead and likely will be for the future - there were some substantial security gaps in it that doomed it.

I find it a bit odd that some are concerned about their privacy when in a public place.  If that is your predominant concern, stay home in your private setting.

There are many actual or potential 'infringements' on your privacy when in public that can be visual, auditory and olfactory - I guess the question is where do we draw a line on which ones are 'offensive' and which ones are 'acceptable'?

Funny, I did the same thing - went to google maps and plotted the distance - 2-2.5 miles and relatively short bushwhacks to get to the road.  Easy travel once you hit the road, I'd expect, but keep your ears open for logging trucks or other authorized vehicles and check the harvest map for activity in the area.

Looks like a dandy loop either way!

Could be one of the "Georges" - big or wee...they both have "bays" at the end of the portages.  And they're in proximity to North River Lake.

Quite a sizeable gap there between May 24 and June 28...don't you want to camp with the company of a hundred thousand black flies?

It's actually quite cheap when you compare the cost of a motel/hotel/AirBnB plus food costs with a typical vacation where you often have to eat meals in restaurants.  Heck, even discount airfare to much of Europe would run $700 Canadian and I expect at least a few hundred for destinations in the U.S.

Granted, it's more expensive than staying at home...but there is substantial reward for wandering in the woods!

I had zero interior trips in APP this year; your country wouldn't allow me to recreate north of the border...and for good reason!

I had 10 sleeps in a tent/hammock in the woods and another 9 or 10 in cabins this year and caught fish in NY, NJ, PA and DE.  I didn't shoot a bear or a deer...although I put quite a bit of time in scouting and hunting bear.

Any year that I can be in the woods is a good year though!

Be well, Bo, and keep going to the woods!

@Peek - a possible answer to your inquiry (although I don't know the full fee structure) is that the park makes its money on reservation and has a lower profit margin on the activities of changes or cancellations.  Therefore, a shorter window would reduce the number of changes/cancellations and contribute more towards the higher profit activities.  Just a theory based upon business sensibilities.
