Thanks for another one, Drew. You make reference to a campsite report for site 2, but I couldn't find one. I did visit that site in September 2018, and you're right - no bueno. I can vouch for sites 14 and 17 as being quite pleasant, though 17 would best in bad weather.

Another good one, Drew - thanks for posting!

After 45mins on the phone and a call back, its all good.  Interesting what's happening with the online reservation system and the upcoming changes. Can't wait until next year.

So confirmed? No checking in? That's a game changer.

Good stuff, man.

Pulled out my cell to take some pictures on Sylvia and was surprised to have 3 bars of LTE.

I have a few in my yard here in SW QC. I don't think it would be a stretch for one of the "beans" to have hitched a ride - perhaps caught in a gunnel of a canoe stored outdoors (wasn't me, though).

ETA: It's growing a bit weird, though. My experience is that they grow straight up, with a main trunk - not as a spreading shrub.

If there is just 1 Or 2 Of you and you want an early start, you can call in the day before and just eat the cost of the extra night.

Last time we booked a room at a motel in Whitney. I've considered staying on a campground for the night, too.

sorry, i dont follow. questions were - should we take 1 canoe, or 2? and should we stick to Smoke>Parkside Bay or is there another highly recommended trip for the five of us? thx.

My post was an offer for your consideration to book the ranger cabin on Farm, which I thought might be an appropriate destination for your group of five people, including three young children. No portaging and easily attainable.

I have nothing to offer regarding vessel configuration and so I did not answer that question.

The ranger cabin on Farm?

Just reread my post and I should really add that once you do get it right, it's glorious. Which presents another problem - you won't want to get out to pee.

Speaking of that trip, anyone going to be on Pinetree next week?

No help on the pack boat, but I'd appreciate an update on Pinetree.

Unless all of the planets align, my bet is that you won't like it the first time. I've been hanging mine every other weekend for 2 seasons and I'm still figuring things out. Problems can range from numb heals to a 2-day long splitting headache. Hofman Outdoor Gear and Little Shop of Hammocks are 2 Canadian cottage manufacturers that make an exceptional product that will hold their value.

I have very little to offer, but I can say that if you want (need) to camp on Pen, the site on the north shore (on the way to Gem) is far enough off the beaten path and offers a very good view of the lake. The waterfront is a slab of rock (check the PCI, site #2). I like it as a final site because I have a long drive and prefer an early start - 2 inexperienced tandem paddlers can make AP 9 in a little over an hour.

Not been to Pinetree before. The trip is a quick there-and-back to Sylvia to see how the lad (he's 18) likes it.

I'll be on Pinetree with my nephew Aug 23rd.

Rose Island has service, same with most sites on Pen Lake.
Head, Harness, Pardee etc all have service these days.

Good to know. It was more of a "I know there is cell service here" comment. The FOA website had incorrectly listed the hours of operation for AP9 as 8am - 9pm, Sat to Thurs when in fact, on Mondays they open at 9. I sat in the office parking lot and checked email, etc. I decided to move to the dock and unload and promptly lost service, so figured that was it and turned my phone off. I suppose as you get down the lake, closer to Whitney, that it would make sense that coverage improves.
