Ostromoutdoors.ca is taking orders on their canoe packs and barrel packs. I just ordered the barrel pack and it looks like delivery will be in May. I can’t wait, I’ve never heard anything negative about any Ostrom product.

I had the exact same problem with the Katadyn pro, so following some advice from another site, i cut the filter out of the Katadyn and I just use it as the reservoir with a Sawyer mini attached and that drains into a dromedary bag. It’s super simple and it works great.

I'm heading to Rosebary lake from Tim lake in a couple of weeks and I just noticed the low water level warning on the FOAP website. Has anyone been that way recently? I'm wondering if I need to change my route. Thanks in advance!

I did the exact same thing with a relative from Germany a few year ago. We started at Canoe lake, spent the first night on Burnt Island Lake and second night on Tom Thompson. He loved it! He even welcomed the heavy rain we had on the paddle out because there were no bugs. The horse and deer flies drove him nuts! Make sure you have good bug protection.

Thanks Kurt, you paint quite the picture. The alders didn't even cross my mind, looks like its going to be my back up route.

HI Blobsquatch,
I was on Tim Lake with my 5 year old son, two friends and their little guys as well. The three adults were woken up at 3am to a massive thunder storm and torrential rain. How the kids all slept right through the storm i'll never know, the thunder was really shaking the tent. The really cool thing was we heard some wolves howling between the thunder. We all stayed dry until we were packing up around 9am.
Glad to hear you were better situated than we were.

Hello all,
I'm thinking of trying the Nipissing from Big Bob to floating heart next week and I was hoping that with all of the rain this summer the water levels would be higher than they normally are this time of year. Does anyone know what the water level is like?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Hi Uppa,
I don't have any personal experience tripping with infants, but I have read a great book called "From Cradle to Canoe" by Rolf and Debra Kraiker. You might find it helpful.
