Solo - I've seen that floating around about the portage being on the south side. Was the condition typical of  low-maintenance portages?

Swedish - Good Idea about calling the lodge.

Thanks to both.

Heading in for a trip this spring and was planning on access through Dagger Lake. Anyone have any recent reports on road conditions or the portage conditions on the way into Big Porc?

I'm with you Methye, skeptic through and through.

I think we've all had that experience where in less familiar situations the mind can get creative and highly suggestive. On a trip with a couple of rookies we were sitting around the campfire when the loons started to call to each other. We had the rookies convinced it was the cry of baby wolves and we should remain quiet and block the light from the fire before the adult wolves came to check things out. We spooked them pretty good.

The world is a crazy place with crazy sounds but it's more likely to be an angry pee soaked moose than a sasquatch.

Thanks, I was curious if there was much done in honour of the death anniversary. I'll have to check them out.

I went to the Harris exhibit at the AGO this year. He wasn't necessarily my favourite but it was incredibly interesting to see the evolution of his signature style. I left with a greater appreciation of his work.

When I worked in the park we ran a portage to a single lake so we could easily get away from the corridor crowds. It didn't have a grow op tho, so I'll trade you places.

I am also part of the Nesco from Lee Valley group. It works fine for the few times I use it. No problems so far and I'm 2.5 years in.

Where are you headed in the park? (I have no answer but I am curious to try googling coverage areas for specific stations)

I've only fished a few times on Mcintosh and I've never had much success. It could be the fisherman, though.

I rarely get to such dark skies so I like the idea of bringing my binocs for the stars as well. Of course, the type of trip makes a difference.

The day of driving up I called and asked, we rolled past the permit office around 11PM and picked it up.

It was at the Kingscote access though, which the permits are issued by a 3rd party I believe.

Shayne74 - in the past, I have asked the permit office to print my permit and leave it taped to the door in an envelope so i could pick it up outside office hours. I was going up late one day and camping at the launch spot.

I tend to roll it the way it was packed by the manufacturer.

What was the defect with the Volt LT? I have the 2 person model and it'd be nice to keep an eye out for it.

I usually just use the yellow clam-shell style carton. I have many times in the past, cracked my eggs into a nalgene for transport. As long as you don't leave room, they cushion each other and stay together pretty well. I would be careful with food handling if you choose the latter.

Hey Zen, I ama new fly fisher as well. I've been trying for a couple years but since i don't get out much I retain my rookie status longer than most.

I got a 6wt LL Bean combo (overkill for some of the trout but I wanted an all purpose rod for some bass/small pike). I really liked the rod for casting as a beginner and it comes with lifetime satisfaction guarantee. Temple Forks also has a good guarantee.

I was drifting stonefly nymphs and catching little brookies in some of the small river systems.
