Lmao, ok
Nailed it.Thank you my friend...I've never met Barry but but my sense he is a good and pragmatic man who truly cares about the park and issues like fair and reasonable access...he has also no doubt had lots of interactions with Uppa and swedish pimple...i highly doubt he's unaware that many of us know what hotheads they are and how they love to bully us and shout diwn we newer members who don't support their views...they run roughshod over the chats here...not sure why they feel so angry and threatened tbh
Presumably never seen that meme then.

There's one big difference: if you are forced for some reason to camp on a lake, which you didn't book (and considering one is in the wilderness, it could happen to anyone any time) - in former case it could be reasonably done; in latter there's a good chance that someone will arrive who has properly booked this site - and then what?
I guess you do what happens today. You ask someone to share the site since you know, you’re stuck. Or you camp at the portage. Both are done probably every weekend of July and august.

I’m merely pointing out that having to book, for example, site #3 on a lake versus showing up and choosing from the available sites won’t change my route in any way. The “freedom” to choose my site on arrival doesn’t resonate with me. As long as reservations are required and I have to stay at a specific lake, I may as well know which site I’m staying on. I know the last time I was in quetico(a fair number of years ago) you could just tell them how many nights you were in the park and go wherever you wanted in that time. Not sure if that’s still the case up there but I’m sure it still is in wabakimi. Or crown land for that matter. As much as I love Algonquin, I understand that just isn’t possible as there would be toilet paper and garbage everywhere.

In terms of how it works, ontario parks should follow the reservation rules parks Canada uses. They set a date in February or March and open all bookings for that park at the same time. Bookings open for 8am and an auto wait list starts at 7:30. No need for a 21 day reservation, just book what you need. No games.

a handful of times per year they give 15% off to members. I would say I get about 2-4 invitations a year to write a review for a $10 credit and the membership goes on sale a few times per year. Its my go to place for online shopping now.

Yeah. The gas is only supposed to be exempt for status holders. It’s just generally not enforced as it’s impractical, like a vaccine QR code.

It’ll become a cost analysis to see if the longer drive warrants the avoidance of an increased cost at a closer location. For most I think the cost is a smaller part of the puzzle than the time. A weekend getaway to Quetico or wabikimi just isn’t in the cards.

That canoe wholesale is probably still close to $5000.

If I’m not mistaken you can be issued a summons to show up to court. Would only be for a serious offence or for repeat offenders. Fine may end up being the same but could cost you time off work to attend court as well as the drive from wherever you live to the court which could be north bay or Ottawa depending where you get caught.

So booked a couple of national park trips in the past few days. I have to say I really like the national park reservation system. Each park has an opening day for reservations for the whole year. On Tuesday Bruce peninsula national park opened for reservations. At about 7:30 I went to the website and I was placed in a queue for reservations that opened at 8. At 8am I was told where I was in the queue and how long until my turn. When my turn came I was immediately forwarded to the reservations page. Choose my dates and campsites, paid and got an email confirmation. So much better than the 5 months in advance Ontario parks system that causes so many people to game the system by booking days they have no intention of using and cancelling later.
Did the same thing this morning for a pukaskwa reservation.
Ontario parks should take some notes on how to run a reservation system.

I have no insider information aside from the fact that if they wanted to end this program they would have cancelled the pilots. The fact the pilot programs in mass and Temagami are ongoing tells
Me they are just biding their time.

That’s good news. Glad they didn’t change it but I’m certain they will eventually.

Agreed. Go in on the Friday and you’re usually ok. By the time you’re leaving Monday you’re usually digging the bug spray out.
