Trip Planning » Pinetree Lake portage put-in » 5/18/2019 3:27 pm |
We were there in September 2017. There are still a couple of logs left but we managed to put our canoe in between them and paddle out. I didn't take very good pictures since we were excited to take our packs off and start paddling.
I would post the pic but can't figure out how..

I was out at Tim access this morning and the dock is completely under water and has been for a week, even in early May the water isn't as high as it is right now. 3 beaver dams total between the access and Rosebary but they hardly even require a liftover now.
They got quite a bit of rain over the weekend... The dock was still above the water Saturday when we made our way to Rosebary and completely underwater when we returned on Monday.
There's one noticeable beaver dam but you can run it heading to Rosebary. Might need to lift over on your way back. The current was so strong right after the storm on Monday it made our lift over much more interesting
Fishing » Telescopic rods? » 8/19/2018 4:16 pm |
Just wondering if anybody has tried any of the telescopic rods out there. I'm relatively new to fishing and was looking to purchase a rod that was portable and compact (not a lot of storage in my condo) to take on my next trip to the park in September.

I second the suggestion for Pen Lake. There is no outfitter at the lake but you can always arrange for them to deliver the canoe to the access point. The portage from Rock into Pen is really easy ,plus there's a fresh spring that you can use as a water source and a nice set of waterfalls just off the portage to check out. If you make it to the southern end of the lake to set up camp then you have some day trip opportunities there as well....you can check out the rapids between Pen and Clydegale or check out the Galipo falls.

My sister and I are heading up to Pinetree Lake for the Labour Day long weekend. I'm curious about the northernmost site on the lake (closest to the Pinetree portage). Has anybody stayed there?
Also any tips for daytrips? Are the ski trails accessible from the lake?
Thanks in advance!
Trip Planning » Island Campsite on Little trout lake » 8/10/2017 8:00 am |
Are you referring to site 9 on the PCI map of Little Trout?
I was on the lake last year and stayed on site 5. 9 was one of my target sites but it was already occupied. We couldn't find it at first but if I recall correctly, the site is fairly hidden. We wouldn't have spotted it until we saw the occupants' canoe.
Trip Planning » Bag found at Rock Lake Access Point » 8/31/2016 5:34 pm |
I didn't find it... Somebody else did and I'm just posting it here in case it belongs to an AA member. I'll suggest to the person to tell the park office. I'm sure whoever lost it would notice soon enough.

Not sure if this is the right topic to post this under (Barry you may move if you like).
I saw this post on Facebook's Algonquin Park group page so decided to share in case it belongs to one of you!
Paula Somers to Algonquin Park6 hrs · Bag found at Rock Lake access point.
Hi everyone we have a cottage on Rock Lake, on Sunday August 28th my husband was going home for a few days and discovered a large bag of personal items, he describes it as "someone's whole life" at the dock. We would really like to return this to its proper owner. He could not find anything in the bag that identified who this belongs to. Please share so we can find the owner, I am not posting pictures or contents list lets just say it is valuable."
If this belongs to anybody you know - I suggest you join the Facebook group and respond to the post.

Haven't personally been but was looking into heading to Rosebary Lake on labour day weekend. I've read in trip logs that the Tim can get pretty low in the fall so we decided to hold off until closer to the date before finalizing anything. But since the summer's been so dry we changed our minds and booked a different lake instead. I've been keeping an eye out on the park advisory and sure enough today I saw an advisory for Tim River.

Has anyone heard of a fire ban in the park. I'll be out next w/e ........guess I should bring the stove and not plan on any fires???
K
I didn't see any bans on the Friends' park advisory page. I was checking cause I was curious since I'm heading up for the long weekend for car camping. You'll just have to check the advisory page before you head out or just pack your stove and extra fuel.

No... Not much information given on the friends' site.

The park is pretty dry right now. Make sure you put your fire out all the way. If you're not sure if the fire is completely out, another bucket of water won't hurt! One of the paddle-in sites at Canisbay is closed due to fire damage from a human fire.

Equipment » Pot sets - stainless steel vs non-stick » 6/15/2016 9:24 pm |
I'm looking to purchase my first pot set but I'm not sure what material to choose. My sister is my main tripping companion but my cousin may join us occasionally. I try to cook over an open fire as much as possible but we have a canister stove (Snowpeak Giga Power) for boiling water and making soups. I've read that non-stick material won't hold up over a cooking fire and I'm worried that the non-stick finish would get scratched out in the bush but love the fact that it's easy to clean! We've used stainless steel pots that we rented from outfitters before and hated having to soap the bottoms to prevent blackening of the pots and it was a pain trying to clean, especially after having eggs! Does anybody have any advice to help guide me? And titanium is not in our budget.
Thanks!

You can also paddle the Galipo river and check out the small waterfalls along the way.
If you want, on your way out, you can stop by the Barclay's estate and explore the ruins or hike Booth's Rock trail.

WHAT was happening that someone left so much underwear behind!?! Leaving anything behind is terrible and I always end up cleaning up after people at campsites (half-burned stuff in the firepit irks me to no end). But, I am so baffled about the underwear. Was it the same person with lots of underwear (why did they bring so many pairs!?!) or was it multiple Underwear Monsters? I have so many questions.....
Maybe they had washed a couple and were letting them dry and they got blown away...*shrugs* It's funny how people think children are irresponsible but they just don't know better. Adults on the otherhand...tsk tsk
