It's official, April 10th!...... still holding out hope that they open the backcountry in April despite the ongoing restrictions.  Watching the covid update website closely.

@ryan72 in android,  open avenza, make sure you are not logged into an account. hit + download map -> tap or enter url at bottom. It will open the store screen and click the button, it will say processing. This means its downloading, in 5-15mins it should be ready to view.

Funny. I was just up in the area for the week and found bugs way less than typical in early July. There were some blackflies around campsites but not too active other than dusk. Mosquitoes were there but not horrible.

That said, I was still having dinner before dusk and tucking myself into my hammock before bug o'clock.

I'd say the bugs were more like a typical August long weekend.

Portages were worse of course.

It was ok sometimes but mostly bad, at one point I was getting water from a spring on the nippising and fully suited around 3pm or so I must have had 100 mosquitoes around me and only my hands exposed and every few seconds about 10 would land on my hands... good fun. Can't wait for the next trip! :D

I’m getting around the extra car fee by just making a second or third booking if necessary. Piss poor business planning. Guess what guys now there are less sites for you to book.

I've done the same.... oh well there problem unless they fix the terrible site.

The extra parking fee is crazy, we had 3 cars on a 6 person permit last year and that's a huge expense this year

Maybe call them, the website sucks so they probably can't even update it to not charge us fees just for 2020..

Fyi even if the border did open in time which looks unlikely at the moment, they still have a mandatory 14 day quarantine in place for anyone entering Canada so you'd have to plan a 2 week + days for actually camping trip unless things change.

Anyone know if it's still open on weekends and if so what the hours are? Really don't want to drive to the west gate when we want to jump off at rain lake.

Islet has some nice sites that have direct access to the hiking trail if your up for the extra little trek, 2 really short portages. My wife and I were there last fall.

We stayed on the site on the south point of Englehart island on Jeff's map. Lotssss of space and tent spots. Nice open area at the front. Landing not too bad. It was nice.  Also to the right of that on the mainland that site is a literal beach. Was taken but seemed nice.

Mosquitos were insane on opeongo last weekend, deer flies very annoying saturday but not biting much, and mosquitos were insane especially after dark, literally just swarms of buzzing couldn't hear yourself think..... brutal.

We just did access point 4 rain lake, to Islet lake, about 8 km , 2 portages 455m and 700m and they were honestly quite nice and pleasent, Islet lake most sites are really well maintained and great, the booking site allows 3 bookings and it has 6 or 7 sites, so no issue finding a site and it's a small lake.

But yea any of the access points out of Kearney (easy access from GTA) 3 4 and 2 are recommended as they have tons of nice sites and nice lakes with nice paddles in depending on how much work you want to put in.

I was in sunday creek in June, the creek is quite shallow in alot of spots, rather than having a deep spot it gets too wide sometimes, but if it's similar now it's not too bad. also norway to fork , tiny little beaver dam, easy to get on top of and shove the canoe over.
