I bought PB & Me - it's good and helps when trying to lose weight (both in a pack and on me 😀)

Other alternatives are to use apple sauce instead (vegans do this) or buy powdered eggs online (amazon has them). But for 1 cake, I'd just take the eggs personally. You can also buy egg replacement at bulk barn. If you do use the powdered whites I would love to hear how they turn out.

Claire, why not just take regular eggs? We just came back from a two and a 1/2 week trip with 2 dozen eggs. The key for duration is to buy farm eggs that have not been refrigerated or cleaned.

Trip Planning » Nip R Water Levels (Burntroot/Cedar Area) » 8/17/2016 12:26 pm

We did the Nip from Nadine to Cedar in 2 days. They were comfortable days (we are not so fast) but I agree about the campsites - the one we stayed on was horrendous.

Thanks.

Campsite Cooking » Food Packaging - reducing waste » 7/25/2016 9:43 pm

I think I hit 90 Glad freezer bags by the end of packing for our 3 week trip last year and by the time we got back I'm not sure how many were reused vs garbage so I feel your pain. The problem with Naglenes is the shape. I can't fit enough Nalgenes in to take 16 cups of flour (for example) so we pack one Nalgene jar and put the rest in freezer bags. I do seperate bags we will reuse from bags that are done (gooey for example) while on the trip. So no good answer. I think the idea of cloth where you can is a good one.

Campsite Cooking » Dehydrated and dry food vs real food » 7/25/2016 9:27 pm

We usually use bisquik for pizza which works well if you don't have time for full dough making session - started doing this based on Black Feather cookbook receipe.

Trip Planning » Fire rating: HIGH » 7/25/2016 11:29 am

The municipalities in the east side of the park do not have fire bans currently either.

Trip Planning » Fire rating: HIGH » 7/20/2016 10:24 am

My OH is on the fire department in our municipality on the edge of the park. We dd have firebans on and off all spring. Although it was not said in so many words I think it had more to do with money than risk. In other words, when the FD has to be called out mulitple times a week for small fires that are started from things like dumping one's ashes from one's campfire at one's cottage on public land at the base of a tree, it gets expensive for the municipality. I think for the park, the cost/ benefit ratio is different.

Equipment » Packrafts - Suitable for Algonquin? » 7/19/2016 8:01 am

If you bought an Alpaka I would not be worried about punctures. I think it comes down to a few things: price, ease of use, time in boat. Pakrafts are designed to work like kayaks and are more for remote trips that involve whitewater. I wouldn't recommend them for Algonquin. To me there are better options. Canoes are easier to portage, lighter and faster on the water. If you are willing to watch, deals do come up. We bought a Temagami (2 tone) in excellent shape for 500$. All we have to do is replace the gunnels. That being said, I have seen many people in Algonquin using strategies I would not use. So if it is what you want, go for it.
