Hey everyone!
I'll be heading into the Algonquin backcountry in 2 weeks for my first fall canoe trip. I was wondering if there are any significant behavioural changes in regards to the moose and bears? I always hope to see moose (and keep an eye out for bears) on backcountry trips and always skeep my distance when I do have an encounter. Anything I should be aware of for this time of year?
Thank you!

Good morning!
Anybody gone from Bonnechere Lake to Phipps recently?
I'm heading that way in a couple of weeks and a heads up on the actual conditions would be reassuring!
If anyone has been from Head up the Creek and up the Madawaska to Cache I'd love to know what the water levels are looking like too!
Thank you!

Equipment » Rain Boots for Fall Portages? » 9/08/2015 8:03 am |
Hey everyone!
Thanksgiving week, 2 friends and I will be embarking on our first Fall trip into the Park. We've been discussing the necessary gear and I would like to know if anybody has any thoughts on rain boots for the Portages. I've been on half a dozen trips into the AP backcountry in the last 3 summers and 85% of the time I am barefoot from the access point, through the portages to our campsites. Seeing as how we may face some cooler weather, more (cold) mud and possibly more rain, I thought a pair of rain boots could come in handy. I'm not really looking to invest in a pair of hiking boots and the rain boots will surely do a better job of keeping my feet DRY. Not to mention, easy to put on and take off.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Hey everyone!
Mid October, 3 of us are planning on doing Smoke, Ragged, Big Porc to Bonnechere (Night 1), to Phipps, Kirkwood, Pardee, Harness to Head (Night 2 & 3), seeing as how we have the time and are up for it, instead of doing the 1600m to Cache, we figured it would be much more scenic and fun to do Head Cr /Madawaska to Cache, Sherrif Pond to Little Head (Night 4), to Kootchie back to Smoke.
My questions is: Is Head Cr/Madawaska up to Cache doable in mid October? How is the paddle up stream at that time of year?
Thank you!

Myself and 2 buddies are doing a loop from October 8th to 12th this year. I was wondering what your experiences we're at this time of year regarding a sleeping pad. The ground will be much cooler than in mid summer and I'd like to go in with some confidence I won't freeze my butt off all night.
Thank you!
