So... Mini received and loaded ready to go with basic safety plan. Not much trouble. Mostly just follow the onscreen instructions.
When loading the contacts for messaging into the account, it did not update the Mini - a process called sync-ing. Required downloading and running a separate program called inReach, which was not immediately obvious to me.
Also, during original account setup entering my personal user data the process got hung up until I used a recommendation to delete browsing history cookies. Then worked fine.
Its coming into the Park on Sunday. Yeah!!

Got me to finally seriously consider options for emergency response in the park, plus sledding, trail cycling, hiking, boating etc... Who knows what future dilemma it might get me or others out of?
Going with Mini original and annual $15/mo plan. Sounds like setup can be a pita. Will provide an update on how it works out.

My wife and I travel light and simple and manage to get into much of the park making sensible decisions based on conditions and our limitations. We've never had a confrontation over a campsite. We have had much good information from other parties on availability of sites just for asking.
We've been windbound, had daylong heavy cold rain and snow, and ill and injured campers. Also had days when big lakes were smooth as glass.
Uncle Phil's three priorities for tripping were safety, comfort and education. "Get to site x" wont move to the top of the list for us.
Yes, Johnmaclane, site-reserved designation of a number of campsites within a predictable, safe most-weather paddle from an access point would provide a high likelyhood that users could actually get to the specific site that suits their needs. Sort of like walk-in sites some parks have.
Please, no site specific reservations in backcountry.

Correction I sent an email to Mr D'Mello, see it was to his bell media account, looks like he's now with CTV and cant find an account with them. Oh well.
I guess point is 60% of Ontario adults plus 2 weeks, and hitting other milestones is closest thing to an opening plan we have, but we dont even have clarity on where we are with the 60%.

Old guy (me) when I go solo pays $8.80 + tx =$9.94 per night. So $46.05 is 463% increase.

Now, wouldn't it be great if the park could email those with reservations with instructions to print two copies of the reservation confirmation and receipt of payment emails, stick one set on the dash and carry the other, and reply to their email agreeing to the standard rules and whatever additional rules for covid - group size, number of households, etc???

FOAP now has "camping (developed and backcountry)closure extended to June 14, 2020.
Guess I'll go hang around Canadian Tire cause that's way safer.

It seems like we are off the radar as far as any priority for opening the backcountry. There's been no word on extension or not.
Just sent a message to "Ask the Premier". Didn't save it, to paraphase
" Is it appropriate at this time to open Algonquin Park for overnight backcountry (wilderness canoe) camping. As an annual participant, I can state that, other than confirming arrival and obtaining paperwork from a park attendant, there is very little and typically no contact with others. Truly self isolation."
