Is it along the portage between Welcome/Galipo? The 2nd, long one.

Just going by your hint as I remember it opening up a bit...

I'm hesitant to guess this... but it kind've looks like a site on Catfish I've stayed on near the Northern part of the lake but I think there's a more significant grade to it.

This looks like the south end of Ragged to me

Catch-all Discussions » Music thread - what's everyone listening to? » 3/10/2023 11:17 am

I also have 2 young children at home. I find myself absentmindedly whistling the Pepa Pig theme song all too much....
Quick background is I'm in my early 30s and was a nerdy band-kid who played percussion and the drums..
@Dave, the correct answer is always Rush. Dreamtheatre, TOOL, and Coheed and Cambria also great prog. rock gods as well. Polyphia is another amazing more 'recent' one.

For Gonq portages, I find Gordon Lightfoot's songs to be oddly heartwarming and the pace of his early guitar works keeps me high-stepping - Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Early Morning Rain etc... Or if, it's the Dickson-Bonfield I'll imagine some hardcore rock music (Alexisonfire, System of a Down, etc..) and pretend I'm running from the Devil himself.

I'll listen to anything except what I call 'pop-country'.
Cheers all.

Is this the portage landing on the P135 between Daisy and the Pet? I think it's the 'falls' along the Pet; you're facing west, possibly?

I've got many a tiny brookie here if so.
Cheers

Not Misty.

Not Dickson - but very close!

The point of land also has a campsite at the end of it.

Ian - hope you're well, but no, not Louisa.

The 'point' of land in this photo is an island.

I'm pretty sure on this one. This looks like the Falls along the Galipo River inbetween Pen and the Galipo. It's along a portage.

Love your videos Evan, cheers. What's your current go to Single Malt?
I'm still particular to my Lagavulin.

Trip Planning » Maple Creek Conditions Between Kawa/Erables » 6/22/2022 9:51 pm

Able to weigh in on this route now... taken in late May of this year.
Night 1 - Manitou
Night 2 - Totem
Nights 3 & 4 - Erables

Portages between Upper Kawa and Maple Creek were great for black portages. Lots of old tote roads.
Looks like big wind events have done work to Totem/Wahwahtaysee & One Mile - we stayed at Totem at the 1st site with a ton of deadfall everywhere.

Upper Maple between P535 and P645 is a beautiful sedge meadow. We had good water levels but even in low water you could easily walk your canoe along the fine grained sand bottom.

Maple Creek between the 645 m and 360 m was variable in conditions - some closed in alder sections with some sedgey sections. The alder sections could be nasty in summer - we had an alright time as it's not as bad as downstream.

There's an old road cut at the end after the 360 m that beavers have damed up and I believe this is the reason for all the nasty conditions downstream. Seriously, this thing was huge... like 10-12 feet water difference as they just used the old road cut embankments to dam up.  Obviously it's not a watertight structure but you could see the seepage and water overflowing the old cut. There is a portage sign indicating this location.

The nastiest part of Maple creek is after the P245, which I believe is further upstream of the location indicated on Jeffs map. I didn't take a GPS location there but wishing I did. This was brutal. We cleared alder where we could put it was a stupid amount of pulling/pushing off the bank and sloshing through beaver muck. I couldn't imagine coming here in the summer. The mosquito's were insane - I looked like a leper even with the Bug Shirt on.

Just wanted to share some recent information on the Maple Creek area upstream of the Tillie portage... In reality the worst part of Maple Creek is downstream of Tillie portage.

Cheers

Looks pretty sedge-y to me...

Is it the Nipissing River, the long stretch between Ramona and Nadine portage?
Cheers!

Trip Planning » Maple Lake » 3/27/2022 10:32 am

Hi bheard. Maple Lake is awesome.

My wife and I stayed on CS#9 on the North island on Maple Lake in 2020. The site is very well used so lots of erosion and basically no firewood.

It is gorgeous IMO though. Has an easy landing looking south and some open rocks to enjoy the view.

I'd say that the island site CS#4 is much better... it was occupied when we arrived to the lake unfortunately.

Cheers, happy moose hunting.

Yessir. Head Lake it was! Awesome site.

We were there in 2018 during a fire ban year. We made extensive use of the falls; swimming across from our site to the falls.
