Unfortunately for those of us who have rolled our ankles over and over, me being one of them, once it happens several times it only makes it more likely to happen again. I've rolled my right ankle so many times now my body reacts before I know what happened, I drop like a stone regardless of what I'm carrying. I've had bruises from my ankle almost to my knee. Problem is once a certain amount of time passes you inevitably forget and the confidence comes back and wham. I do find now that because I drop so fast I rarely get it as bad as I did in the past, concentration on footing is key in my opinion but easier said than done, I rolled mine again the first time out this year.

Thinking about doing a loop in late September and I was looking at a 6-7 nighter staying on, Tom Tompson-Timberwolf-Misty Forks-White Trout-Sun Beam-Tom Tompson with possibly an extra night on White Trout. anyone done this trip or something like it in early Fall? Any advice re: better options/ fishing or otherwise would be appreciated.

Dickson Lake?

The crow is fairly slow moving lazy river, you should have no issues, the water is moving a little faster near the portages just be careful where you put in. Personally I find the 7 portages on the crow more tiring than the Dickson-Bonfield portage, seems like you just get started and your unpacking an packing all over. I've only done this trip in late April and early May so it may be a different story in low water conditions. Definitely do-able but I would personally do the opposite. One more note the Dickson-Bonfield portage is long but its in good shape generally so not that bad.

What is inside the cabins? I've camped beside the one on Big Crow a few times and always wondered whats inside. Bunks, Stove, Table? 

That's too bad, hopefully it will run its course at some point. I saw on the friends of Algonquin Park website that they took sediment samples in 2015 to determine if it was part of a natural cycle but I haven't seen any results posted. Dickson was one of my favorite lakes in the park and I'd like to spend some time there again, shame about Opeongo and others as well, lets hope it doesn't get too wide spread.

I ended up buying the international, I liked the idea of the canisters but one of the reasons I was buying it in the first place was to avoid having to dispose of the canisters afterwards, so a bit of an irony. I have a pocket rocket so I guess I could always bring it along as a backup with one canister if I felt the need. I was thinking for simmering I could bring along my hobo stove and use the top to elevate the pot above the burner and that might do the trick, I guess experimenting is half the fun.
