Not to derail this thread but what are the advantages of switching from a sleeping bag to a quilt?
I ese both a Hennessy and an Amok hammock as well as a tent and a quilt seems like sleeping in an unzipped barrel type sleeping bag.

So likely not an exhaustive list but people usually move to quilts for the following reasons.

1. Weight Savings
    •    No hood or zippers. Plus limited insulation on the bottom of the quilt allowing your pad/underquilt to insulate you.

2. Packability
    •    Can likely compress down smaller than most bags.

3. Versatility & Temperature Regulation
    •    Quilts vent easily, which is ideal in summer. You can stick a leg out, open it up like a blanket etc..

4. Comfort
    •    Quilts generally allow for more room to sprawl out.

I think they are great for all those things but for me I came to the conclusion if you get a good lightweight hoodless bag with a 3/4 zip down the back of the bag and not the side you can accomplish most of these things while still being less drafty when it turns colder and easier to cinch up.

I live near kempenfelt bay.
It’s never exact but usually pretty close that AP ice out is 3 weeks behind ice out on Kempenfelt. Ice is still in and I think AP might be closer to 4 weeks behind this year with the added ice thickness in AP.
I’m guessing the second weekend in May is the best we can hope for.

Hey Swede

Yes I have a few. Enlighten Equipment Revelation, Therm-a-Rest one can’t remember the model and a couple of custom ones from Little Shop of Hammocks.

To be honest though I’m moving back to bags. I have a zpacks classic bag for summer and a Western Mountaineering Versalite bag for colder weather.

If your question is because you are thinking of moving to them I will say this.

I like them for summer but if the weather has any chance of turning colder I prefer a bag. Yes most quilts offer good strap systems to attach to your pad and you can keep them closed up pretty well but if you move around a lot I just find there is always 1 spot a draft can get in. Again no issue in July and August.

I like that they open all the way on hot nights though.

The zpacks classic bag I use now I find is a good compromise.  It zips down 3/4 of the bag so will still open up quite a bit. It is also the lightest bag I have at 14 ozs but well warm enough for summer.

Sweating depletes electrolytes, and drinking large amounts of water without replenishing them can further dilute electrolyte levels and increase urination, leading to even greater losses.

Here’s my DIY electrolyte recipe (tastes like salt...), which I’ve used for a couple years now based on the LMNT formula that they display on their packaging. You’ll need a "microscale" or a scale that measures to 0.01g (about $20 on Amazon).

One serving:

  • Sea salt: 1000 mg
  • Potassium chloride: 200 mg
  • Magnesium: 60 mg (magnesium malate, oxalate, citrate, or glycinate all work)

I get sea salt from the grocery store and the other salts from my local health food store, though they’re easy to find online as well.

At home, I put each serving in one of those multi-day pill boxes.  When I'm camping, I just make a large batch with all the ingredients mixed together in a ziploc and use about a 1/4 teaspoon with 500 mL of water as needed.

I like the idea of DIYing it. You may want to consider Baja Gold or Celtic sea salt instead of regular sea salt.  These salts are minimally processed, have higher mineral content and lower sodium levels. They contain a broad spectrum of trace minerals, including magnesium, potassium, and calcium, which help provide better  electrolyte support. IMO they taste better too…And yes they do cost more.

Geez. Not sure but it looks pretty beaten down. That’s the problem with people showcasing these gem sites. 😉

Buy Canadian.  Altitude carries Happy Yak.  Their meals are pretty good and they’re from Montreal I think.

Ya Bruce Smith makes some nice paddles. I custom ordered a couple from him over a decade ago.
Could be wrong but pretty sure he is hanging it up though and retiring.

I own a lot of paddles but I have never made my own. Finally remedied that a few weeks ago at the Spirit Tree Paddle Company in Paris ON. If anyone is looking to do the same, Jenni runs a fun and informative session.

Started with this.

My finished product is on the far right. ( I did not do the burnt in tree image)

Pretty sure Martin and I have the same Little Shop of Hammocks tarp. The one shown in his video with ridgeline stuff sack.

Years ago I tried to mimic all my tarp set ups and hangs roughly after this guy who seemed to know his stuff.

Placidboat works makes packboats with different height pack seats that are stackable. US manufacturer though. Rare to see one for sale up here.

You can see their seats here.

https://placidboatworks.com/how-to-choose-your-boat-lay-up/

Or maybe just a keewaydin 14 with their multi height seat. I have paddled a keewaydin 15. Too much boat for me too. The 14 is likely up your alley. Pretty sure they would make one for you if you ask.

Multi height seat can be seen here. At the 8 min mark. The lower height of that might work for you.

I’m in Barrie and near a beach on kempenfelt bay if you want to paddle a keeywaydin 14 just shoot me a DM.

Personally if you are double blading exclusively I would just get a pack boat maybe a cruiser 14.8 at your weight.  I have a keewaydin 14 with a combi seat ( can install traditional seat or pack seat) I find myself using the pack seat more often then not. They don’t offer the combi seat anymore but if you ask them they might make you a boat with it. That or hedge your bet with their new multi height seat.

Keewaydin 14 is the right size solo/non packboat for you but again no longer see that on their website. They would likely make you one if you ask though.
