The 2021 Algonquin Outfitters Charity Paddle (and Canoe) Art Auction is online right now until Monday, Sept 27th,  The first lot will begin to close starting at 8:00 pm EST on the evening of Monday, Sept 27th.  Bid on over 75 paddles and 7, Group of Seven themed canoes in this year's auction.

Proceeds from the auction support the Algonquin Art Centre, the Canadian Canoe Museum, Huntsville Art Society, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, the Tom Thomson Gallery and the Town of Huntsville's reserved fund for future public art acquisition.

Algonquin Outfitters celebrates 60 years with almost $3,000 in contest prizes

Algonquin Outfitters (AO) has a simple goal: to get people outside. The company grew from a young boy’s passion for the outdoors and for 60 years they have never wavered from their focus on authentic outdoor adventure.

The moment Bill Swift Sr. arrived at Camp Pathfinder, he fell in love with Algonquin Park. That experience set roots for what would become a beloved outdoor retailer and outfitter serving people from around the world.

From its humble beginnings as a seasonal outfitter at Oxtongue Lake, just west of Algonquin Park, AO is now a three-generation, family-run retail and outfitting operation with 12 locations in and around Algonquin Park, Haliburton Highlands, and Muskoka. They launched an online store last year and this season expanded four locations—Bracebridge, Haliburton, Minden, and Port Carling.

Today, under the guidance of Rich and Sue Swift, Algonquin Outfitters continues to embrace its roots, providing a range of both summer and winter outdoor experiences along with the gear to get outside and have fun.

Glad to hear your 1990's AO Canoe pack is still going strong.  I have a personal one from 1999 that still looks practically new and it's seen well over 100 days on trip over the two decades I've had it.

If you wish to go on a backcountry canoe trip prior to that just show up at Algonquin Park and the Access Point permit offices will book a route for you upon arrival pending conditions. Algonquin Park Update from the Friends of Algonquin: Opeongo's South and North Arm are officially open!  Its so hard not being allowed to announce information until it's "Official" sometimes.Facilities Now Open, With Some ExceptionsOntario Parks is reporting that they have opened all areas of Algonquin Park on Friday, May 11, 2018 as expected, except for a few areas listed below.

UPDATE - Closed Areas• Cedar Lake - ice covered, not passable by boat
• Carl Wilson Lake - ice covered, not passable by boat
• Lake Opeongo, East Arm - ice covered, not passable by boat (no backcountry permits for East Arm, permits available remainder of lake)Algonquin Park Canoe Routes - OpenMost Algonquin Park lakes are now open, but visitors should expect to be potentially re-routed due to lingering ice on some lakes and bays. Snow and ice in shaded areas may also be encountered on backcountry campsites.

Backpacking Trails - OpenSnow and ice in shaded areas will make travel potentially challenging on Algonquin Park's backpacking trails, and may be present on some campsites. Additionally, localized flooding is expected and may be unavoidable while navigating trails.

Campgrounds - OpenLocalized flooding, wet campsites and boil water advisories should be expected in Algonquin Park's developed campgrounds. Snow and ice in shaded areas may also be encountered on campsites and all Park facilities.
