I was lake trout fishing in early May with a portable fish finder. Marked lake trout at 10 fow for 3 days, high pressure moved in the all moved to 40-55 fow. They certainly can reposition themselves literally overnight. I know it's not encouraging but every lake is different and so is the weather on every trip. With all the rain this spring they should not be too deep yet. I would plan to aim for 30-50. Flat lining the shorelines might be productive early morning.
Follow the loons, they know where the bait is. Good luck

Good god. I'm so very happy to see this and it is so respectful of you to release these trophies. You sir are a true sportsman and may have helped to influence your son to be the same. Congratulations.

It was ok, but you had to take your time and avoid some spots. Nothing terrible, better than expected for sure.

I was a bit shocked going into the lake that there were locals in there fishing without a permit.
My father used to go into that lake 35 years ago and either his accounts of the fishing are emblished, my fishing skills are poor or that lake is seeing a lot of pressure. Or all three lol.
I have a photobucket account, will upload some to there. Thanks Dan

Braved cauliflower on a base camp style trip. Weather was challenging. Caught 5 lake trout, one of which was around 18inches. Could not find any brook trout. Came out one day early as I was running low on a heat source. My first solo trip into Algonquin. Water was around 46f, lots of snow flurries. Went in Monday May 8, came out on Thursday. Not sure how to post pictures on here but I have some good ones. Saw a family of foxes, first time. Feel very grounded after coming home. Bugs were just starting to emerge as I left, nothing hardcore just noticed some. Nice to see pictures of other reports in here. Now I want to go deeper into the park... Go figure lol

Hey bo, looks like most of southern/ central Ontario is under a bit of a gloomy 3 week weather pattern- doubt anyone can escape it. The bugs are going to suck once it all settles.
Trip Planning » Salted minnows » 5/02/2017 7:08 pm |
Good, did all my homework. Bought the fishes of Algonquin book last time in, matched minnow species to the lake I'm going to next week by distribution. This was my interpretation of the regulations as well, just seeing if I'm missing anything.
Looks like weather might be challenging. Least the black flies won't be out lol. Thanks for the timely replies gentlemen.

Does anyone have a solid answer on whether or not salted minnows are allowed in the park? I've been reading a lot of varying opinions on this. Thanks in advance.

I went to the couples resort in Whitney with my wife last spring. Picked up the canoe routes map at the museum, and a bunch of other things. She had a spa day booked, I took a drive and found cauliflower lake. I just figured it would be a good place for me to start. I really am an avid fisherman, but even if I get away and burn wood for a couple days it's good enough. I like the idea of going into the interior but at least I can do this with the equipment I already own. It's funny I started a family at a young age and am just starting to get the time to do these things. My entire living room is group of seven prints, never forgot but just getting back. When we where there it was early May and I don't know there is something about that time of the year up there. I can't wait.
