Trip Planning » Access 18a late season » 11/20/2025 2:19 pm

Sadly, no. Weather reports kept getting worse so we bailed.

My buddy and I are talking ourselves into a day trip loop up to Wilkins Lake this weekend. It only works if we can start from 18a though. Anyone have any intel on how that road is late season? Particularly now that there’s some snow on the ground. We’d like to do it but don’t want to do anything stupid and end up stuck up there.

Looks like Little Drummer to me.

I’m halfway through my spring trip write up with, theoretically, three in the hopper. Between kids and work there hasn’t been a ton of writing time this summer.

Equipment » Rogers Satellite Beta » 9/01/2025 8:37 am

I had a chance to use it this past weekend from Redrock and Opeongo and was pretty happy with the results. I found that texts actually seemed to come back quicker than with my InReach, to the point where I was able to have an almost real time conversation with my wife. I’m going to use it again in a few weeks down in the Dividing Lake area (assuming there isn’t cell service down there) and a couple more times later in the fall. if all that goes well I’m probably giving up the InReach subscription.

I’m also a fan of sitting under falls. This was taken July 2020 at the falls you mentioned. It’s a decent sized cascade, but it drops in levels so you can find spots like this (assuming the water levels aren’t too high, but I doubt that’s an issue right now)

That surprises me about the water levels on the rivers being high. I’ve never seen the levels on Canoe Lake as low as they are right now. I was able to walk underneath the end of my in-laws’ dock today to get a floating life jacket (water was about shoulder deep, would usually be well over my head)

Thanks Dwight! It’s been a slow year for me. Got out in the spring and have been writing that one. Unfortunately between work and the kids I haven’t had a ton of free time. The good news for me is that I’m in the Park this weekend and leaving in about ten minutes to do a tour of all the small lakes just off highway 60 that I’ve drive by a million times but never visited. Tomorrow is a day trip up to either sunbeam or little doe depending on my wife’s enthusiasm levels.

Is there a parking cutout at the portage to Bud Lake off highway 60? Anyone been there?

Maybe to Rainbow it is. You’re up Dwight!

Not Grasspink, Furrow or Brule, but we did stay on Furrow on this particular trip (that night on Furrow remains one of my top five all time most underwhelming campsite experiences. We stayed on the creek site because the other site had burned down recently. The creek site wasn’t on fire, but that’s about the only good thing there was to it).

If you look closely in the shallows you can see the One Ring poking out - you got it Shayne. Lake of Two Rivers from Highway 60.
