Trip Planning » Where're you going? » 4/30/2025 2:54 pm

I’m headed in after Mother’s Day out of Canoe Lake. We’re doing 8 days: up to the Tim, across to Catfish, down through Opeongo then back to Canoe through Cache. Should be a fun trip. I’m going to be staying on Shippagew and Robinson.  I’ve never been to either before but both have been on my “want to get there” list for a long time.

Never been there, but Charr Lake just to get the ball rolling

I do too. Ice is out or almost out lots of places that I passed in the area that aren’t the Park. Mary Lake in Port Sydney is out and it’s usually about a week ahead of the Park according to my father in law. I was impressed by the difference two days made coming across 60. Still lots of snow in the woods though.

Canoe Lake this afternoon

We also stopped at Brewer again today and there’s a decent difference between two days ago and today.

Brewer Lake today. Smoke Creek was open but other than that I didn’t see a lot of open water on the way through.

Equipment » Simond Waterproof Bag » 4/15/2025 6:35 pm

Has anyone used the Simond Waterproof Bag from Decathalon? I’ve been looking for a rectangular/flat dry bag and this was the first one that popped up after 10 seconds of exhaustive google research. If you haven’t used this one, anyone got a recommendation for a non cylindrical dry bag? (I feel like a square or flat bag will be a better use of space in my pack. Feel free to let me know if I’m completely off base).

Hey Drew it looks like Shrew!

I think Shrew has more of a hill to the fire pit, but I’m all for answers having to rhyme from now on. So … swoosh it’s Animoosh?

This looks familiar but I’ve got absolutely no idea. Ryan?

Trip Planning » Cranebill Lake?? » 3/25/2025 11:33 am

I was through there in 2021 and apparently I liked it. According to my write up I thought there’d be room for a couple of tents and that there were plenty of hammock options, but didn’t quantify that part. Review is below, hopefully it’ll help somewhat:

Thanks for sharing that blog piece. I think I might try out one of his recipes to see how it goes.
