Where In Algonquin? » WIA 991 » 7/13/2025 10:08 pm

I’m suddenly seeing these dragonfly decoys everywhere. Passed two groups of people on a run this morning who were using them. My son got one this week and loves it. The problem is that him attaching it to his hat means that it’s the perfect height to jam in my eye every time he walks near me.

Junco Lake?

Nice one. Was it the rocks in the middle of the lake II feel like the rocks are a dead giveaway. Yes, this is Junco. You’re up Dwight.

Where is this put-in (or take-out I guess depending on the direction you’re going)?

Speculate that if it's difficult to find shelter from the wind and falling branches/debris, maybe crawling under a secured canoe could be an option?

My buddy and I were talking about this on our spring trip. We were thinking trying to find a large rock to huddle against maybe?

Just read that Highway 630 from Highway 17 to Kiosk is closed with hundreds of campers stuck at Kiosk and will have to be flown out.

Given the heat today (hopefully not as hot there as it is here in Ottawa) there could be some downstream consequences with people being unable to get out over the next couple of days as well.

Looks like the Wet Lake campsite but that doesn’t work with the clues. Francis?

I’m pretty sure Evan has it. That downed tree on the campsite (and the site itself) on the far shore looks a lot like Rumley.

Thanks! This is great.

Thanks Ian,

I’d love to see that footage if it’s easy to do, thank you!

I did the Double Devil’s Staircase back in 2016 and I remember it being ridiculous. Fortunately this time we’ll be going down it rather than up.

Hey all,

Has anyone stayed on Little Raccoon recently? Which site would you recommend? We've got four guys coming through in the fall, anything we should know about?

Trip Planning » Where're you going? » 4/30/2025 2:54 pm

I’m headed in after Mother’s Day out of Canoe Lake. We’re doing 8 days: up to the Tim, across to Catfish, down through Opeongo then back to Canoe through Cache. Should be a fun trip. I’m going to be staying on Shippagew and Robinson.  I’ve never been to either before but both have been on my “want to get there” list for a long time.

Never been there, but Charr Lake just to get the ball rolling

Trip Planning » Ice Out predictions? » 4/20/2025 8:05 pm

I do too. Ice is out or almost out lots of places that I passed in the area that aren’t the Park. Mary Lake in Port Sydney is out and it’s usually about a week ahead of the Park according to my father in law. I was impressed by the difference two days made coming across 60. Still lots of snow in the woods though.
