Muskie season is closed all of may. Those lakes are never generally too busy. Mostly whitewater paddlers coming down from Travers.

Only $330 a month! Should be an epic trip. You should write a book about it.

Booked a quick one night trip May 4-5. Can't wait. Happy it will take a bit longer than expected, I don't want to get too destroyed by black flies May long weekend.

Thanks Martin! Definitely shallower than I thought. Going to give it a run this spring on a quick one night trip. Nice to be able to use a trolling motor.

Has anyone ever caught a trout in Achray Lake before? Still can't decide whether it would be worth checking out. Nice to be able to run the trolling motor but not sure it's even worth it. Emailed the park to see whether it's allowed in Carcajou Bay or not as it isn't clear online.

For rivers in early May bring out the tungsten nymph rig and fish sucker spawn and squirmy wormies.

For trolling I run a double rig with one smaller muddler minnow and one larger white bunny leech at the end with lots of silver flash. For dry flies my searching pattern is a size 8 ausable bomber.

One lure I need to get are gang trolls. Saw some people having really good success with them.

This poster summed it up perfectly. Only reason I can see for going there is if you are going to be with a loud group to party and don't want to disturb anyone. Dear God don't go there!

I drive by it every year heading other places, you could throw a stick at it from your car and Achray road in the summer is for all intents and purposes a busy highway, you'll be covered in dust in an hour....
If you want to drive to a campsite along that road, head in to Sec/Mallard lake, it's off the main road and will get far less traffic, if you have a canoe, paddle out from a lake like Sec or Mcmanus and find a quite spot on the other side!

I would agree with you. I think the barron canyon is better hiked than paddled. Too many people and terrible fishing in that area. I do not enjoy fishing for bass. I would way rather catch trout, salmon, walleye, pike, muskie, crappie, perch, bluegill, mooneye, cisco, silver bass, white bass, white perch, whitefish, channel catfish, brown bullhead, longnose gar, freshwater drum, burbot and chain pickerel over wormy POS smallmouth bass.

No I didn't. Have enjoyed speaking with him in the past. Would love for him to write a book about the park although I doubt he'd ever want to reveal his fishing holes.

Got out from Brent area yesterday. Only time blackflies were bad was loading the canoe around 1pm and the were annoying not biting during the afternoon heat sunday. Good trip overall, only a 2 nighter but some nice lakers and small brookies were caught.
