Beautiful photos.  You could have used access A52 on Jeff's Map to skip all of the river turmoil...but that would have completely changed the character of the trip.

Thank you!

We thought about that...but I wasn't sure if it was ok to park back there. And yeah...we kind of wanted to along the river our first night in. Probably still could have...but everything worked out and it was a fun adventure regardless.

Nice...  I'm guessing your starry night pic was May 17?

Thanks. I believe we had clear skies on the 15th, 17th and 18th.

From May 15th thru May 19th we traveled to Travers Lake Access point and worked our way down to Lake Eustache for a couple of nights. The Petawawa River was REALLY high and angry and it probably wasn't the smartest thing for us to go upstream for this trip. But we managed it. We had to create a portage around one area of particularly strong current just east of the Devil's Cellar rapids. The portage from the campsite at the end of the rapids to the Eustache portage was completely flooded out. So we climbed the hill behind our campsite and took the railbed down to where it meets the Eustache  portage. That worked out pretty well. I expected the Eustache portage to be difficult, but while long, it was one of the nicer and easier portages that I've done in the park. We spent two nights on Eustache. What a cool lake! The weather was amazing for us. Not a drop of rain. The only downside was that the nighttime temps dropped down a bit below freezing a couple nights. That was rough...but we managed that too! We were surprised to find a nest of Peregrine Falcons and I was able to get a few photos of them. Disappointed to find the Jim Hudson plague missing (as mentioned in another thread) though. Here are some of the highlight photos from the trip:

Yeah...that was out thoughts too. I hope it's nothing nefarious, but my cynicism makes me think it probably is.

Hi All,

I just got back from a couple of nights at Lake Eustache (awesome trip - will share some photos in a separate post). I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to the Jim Hudson plaque that was mounted on the north-facing cliffs? We searched for quite a while to no avail this week. I thought for a bit that maybe the water was high and it was submerged, but no. We ended up finding where it is supposed to be mounted, complete with the anchors, but the plaque was gone. We searched the 4-foot deep water right there to see if maybe it fell off into the water, but were unable to find it. Does the park management take it down for the winter and it's just not back up yet? I'm just curious since it was odd to find it missing.

Thanks,

cj

ps...I wasn't sure where to post this topic, so please move it to a more appropriate section if need be.

In mid-may we made a trip up to the park. It was my first spring trip. The weather was, as I would have expected, schizophrenic! lol! We met up with some new friends at one of the cottages on Rock Lake for the first night, then headed over to the Baron Canyon/Grand Lake/Achray area for the next few days. The first couple of days were beautiful and then Mother Nature got angry. The wind on Grand Lake was insane, and the rain on the last day started to turn to snow. Still, though, a great trip was had and I can't wait to get back up there in July! Here are some photos from the trip!

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah...I'm definitely aware of the live-bait restrictions. Because of that, I never thought to use a dead-minow! lol. I just figured lures only!

I appreciate the tips and information! Thanks a ton!

Hey Andy,

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest, I'd be happy catching absolutely anything at this point! LOL! Ultimately catching some Brookies or Lakers would be fantastic, but I'm going to be picky!

Small world, man. I live in Pittsburgh, just outside the Liberty Tubes!

So, I'm apparently pretty lousy at fishing in Algonquin!  I've tried a couple times and I just can't seem to get anything at all. I'm obviously doing something very wrong. Down in Pennsylvania where I live, I generally through a minnow on a hook with a sinker and sit back with a beer until something decides to take the bait. Apparently, such laziness doesn't cut it up North. I was up in the Baron Canyon area this May and didn't have any luck at all.

We are heading back to the park July 23rd thru the 27th. I'd like to try fishing again and maybe get some advice from the experts as to how to handle it. We will be on Ragged, Big Porcupine, and Little Coon Lakes. Any advice on lures, rigs, depth, techniques, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time for any assistance!

heh! thanks Treater! I'm used to having the cam out almost all-day, every day, so I felt like my selection was a little smaller this year. I also really like getting shots of the milky-way and stars and that just wasn't in the cards this year!

Thanks guys!

The water level question is an interesting one. I suspect it's a natural phenomenon, but I'm not sure. I know many parts of the park get to low water levels late in the summer. I have no idea if this is a result of that or some kind of manual intervention. Maybe some of the more experienced members here know the answer!

I didn't get too many 'highlight' photos this year. The weather just wasn't very cooperative. Our trip started on Kiosk lake the first night. Weather was beautiful that day. 2nd two nights were on Club Lake at the campsite where the Richie Bros Lumber Mill ruins are. That was pretty cool to see. All kinds of metal parts and crumbling cabins in the woods there. Pretty interesting to see how Mother Nature is reclaiming that area as her own. The last night we were back on Kiosk.
