Thanks Fred. Yes, a solo trip can get a bit odd, especially when one "talks to the animals"!

Source for quote (at bottom) was on the "Alerts and Advisories" page of the park's official website at ... https://www.ontarioparks.ca/park/algonquin/alerts
Reservation website now shows two distinct areas .. "458 - Cedar West" and "458 - Cedar East".

Cedar Lake's campsite numbering on this website's PCI has not been altered. However, a demarkation line between the west and east halves has been added to the PCI map.

As I've indicated to Bo ... "At the bottom-right of your "in box", you should see "#### of 1,000 allowed messages on file."

All I can think of is that your message inbox may be "full". If you have accumulated 1,000 it won't allow any more to "come in".

If you highlight and delete some of your older messages, you should be able to free-up some space for new messages.

How many others are experiencing problems with their PM's?

I made the measured decision to keep the PCI links that originated with "Algonquin & Beyond", by adding the distinguishing "PM" designation and explaining this with .. "NOTE: As of Feb. 21 of 2024, "paid membership" is required to access reports on AlgonquinBeyond.comAlgonquinAdventures.com will still link to those reports, and will indicate the required membership by a "PM" at the end of each such link." .. in the PCI's sub-list frame.

Changes tend to be a shock, but the internet is always evolving. My decision was to adapt to this change as best I can.

Yes! Shayne has effectively admitted that beer cans are a NO-NO. He's confessed to the infraction. It's not like he's overtly promoting it. The photo struck me as bearing an incidental small images of a couple of cans. Things like beer cans and dogs off leash do happen, but are INFRACTIONS for good reasons and can result in FINES.

Years ago I was in through Rain Lake, over on Islet for a few days. Heavy rains had raised the water way over the access dock. When I came back, the water was down and I was told by a staffer there that while I was on Islet a beaver dam had washed out and taken the access road with it .. that no vehicles could come or go for days .. that the entire roadbed and a culvert had been swept away .. that the repairs had taken days .. that many outgoing campers had been marooned at the access point. On the drive out I could see that a massive amount of fresh material had been moved to fill the washout. Unfortunately some people don't realize the magnitude of what can happen and think that real life is like a TV advert for 4-wheelers.

Trip Planning » Tim Lake and Summer Haulage Noise » 2/19/2024 10:52 am

I've never visited the Tim Lake area and am thinking of getting up there this summer.

The AFA Work Schedule Map for 2024 isn't out yet, so I don't have updated info on scheduled operations.

AFA policy is that tree cutting and truck hauling are allowed Monday through Friday over the summer. So, even if cutting noise is a good distance away, the truck haulage noise affects a larger area.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any "weekday" noise experience with the haulage road that runs east-west a distance north of Tim Lake?

I've "red-dotted" over the mapped haulage road. It looks to be at least a kilometer north of Tim Lake's north shore.

Thanks.

When double carrying a long portage, I tend to "leapfrog" my canoe & food pack This means I'm not too far from my food pack at any one time. Taking your food pack all the way on a long portage, after which you double back the full distance for your canoe and other gear, means the food pack is isolated for a very long time .. giving the beasties a prolonged peaceful opportunity to gain entry to your food!

It looks like the forum service has established a limit on the number of PMs one can 'save'. The pages that now contain PMs have a 'check box' in front of each one and the comment "# of 1,000 allowed messages on file" and options to "delete" and "Move to stored". There also seems to be a "right justification" now applied to forum post input box?
