The PCI and Portage Reports

Just a message to those planning their backcountry trips for the coming year.

Back in the spring of 2012, I started the PCI .. the “Portage and Campsite Inventory” .. to inform people who may consider following in others' paddle strokes .. https://www.algonquinadventures.com/PCI/PCIindex.htm
During the PCI's first years there were numerous reports submitted of both portages and campsites. Eventually, as Drew and Cody added large numbers of campsite reports to their own websites, I found that eventually submissions of portage reports actually “dried-up”!

So, here I am putting out the call for a renewal to the submission of portage reports .. here to AlgonquinAdventures.com!

Please plan in a little extra time for portages, to record them with plenty of photos and notes.

Portages are often only known as lines on a canoe route map. In gathering information for the PCI, we can record their instances of steepness, unusual hardships and any likelihood they could be made difficult by rain, beaver-dam flooding, etc. Effectively composed and 'captioned' photos can provide a valuable resource for others when they plan their trips. A very important part of all portage descriptions are their landings, which should be particularly well documented.

Admittedly, descriptive words and clear photos have become more popular over time, than hand-drawn sketches!
