Hey Steve, stayed on chibiabos a few years back, had to site around back on the north end of the lake. It was mid August and quite nice in my opinion. (At the time it was my girlfriends first trip).  We fished a little bit with out much luck.  A few years later I proposed to her on that lake, right on the big rock off the other campsite.

Thanks Andy W!     We have a night on moc then a night on wenona then another night on moc.  I've been all over the park yet have never touch the string of lakes between rain and misty.  Excited to add a few more lakes to our list .

Thank you all for the information!  Sols, thanks for the picture of the doggo.

I have decided after reading about tent spots and topography info from you guys regarding cranebill, to switch my cranebill night over to wenona. I managed to find some decent pictures of that site on wenona and it looks like it will serve us well.  Not to mention it will provide a better vista out over the lake, and will have sun longer into the day on it.

Love this forum and the expertise/experience I find here.  Thank you all again!

My brother and I did a trip down to see Cranebill a few years ago for what I remember the site is relatively flat, up a little rise - open area with a few tent sites but again if memory serves me it wasn’t super spacious - the large rocks are perfect for stargazing and swimming from (I took a swim off of them to cool off and it has a nice drop off) I might have some pictures - give me some time to see if I can find them - if I get lucky I’ll post them for ya

Thanks Andy! Photos would be great!   Are these large rocks jutting out fairly far from the shore line? No canopy above them?

Yes accessing through rain.  All these years and I have never traveled the lakes between rain and misty. Lots of exploring and day tripping for us to do on this trip.

Been there twice. Once through Moc and once through from Lily Pond. Moc to Cranebill portage was a relatively easy , un remarkable portage. I seem to remember the Moc landing somewhat tricky and littered with sketchy floating logs and debris hindering the loading and unloading.  Doable though. Been a few years now since there. The site itslef was decent. Nice rocky outcrop to sit on and swim from. Quiet as only site on lake. The other two ports in and out are long and black. Likely wont have any traffic passing through. Site was smallish without allot of room for tents. Always thought of it as more of a hammocking site. Maybe OK for one small/med size tent. Worth the trip in if a small group just to have the lake to yourself. Had a nice fire pit last time we were there.

Thank you for the info shayne74!   Glad to hear that it is a nice site with a nice rock outcrop (the rock is one of quintessential campsite requirements).  My only concern now is tent space.   We are a group of 4 with two 3 man tents and a 2 man tent.  I hope we can make it work.

Thank you again for the information

Hey all.  Does anyone have any info or pics of the cranebill lake campsite? Or the portage from mic to cranebill?

I have watched it,  i was on south eastern side of macintosh lake on that Friday, 2 tree came down on our site. Met a guy on the 935 port out of misty (while we were navigating a blow down from the Friday storm) who told me he had a tree come down on his site on daisy during the wind.      What a crazy day that Friday was.  Macintosh looked like superior in the late afternoon.

Personally I have always liked site #6 on rain lake, it's been a while since I've stayed there but I'm pretty sure you have the room for 3 tents. It's got a nice view up the expanse of the lake.    The souther most site on the island has a huge sloping rock as mentioned above, with tons of room for the doggo to rip around.

So the meals worked out pretty good.  I went with mountain house for both breakfasts and dinner.  Breakfasts were. Scrambled eggs peppers onion and ham.  And scrambled eggs and bacon, as well as the breakfast skillet one.     These were meh. breakfast skillet comes in first place but still could only handle 2-3 days of it on a 6 day trip.  Dinners were (best to worst) sweet and sour pork with rice. Chicken teriyaki with rice. Lasagna with meat sauce and pasta primavera. Now my fav dinner was based on flavour and how filling it was, honestly each dinner was delicious but the rice meals seemed much more filling.  The pasta primavera was absolutely amazingly good but it just didn't fill me up.
All in all the meals worked well.  We had a 30km travel day then a 20km travel day, on those days especially, the ease of meal prep and clean up was very welcomed

Thanks for the olive oil tip, I would assume ghee would work as well?

I managed to poke a small hole in one of the packages with a pin, squeeze out the excess air and throw a piece of tape over the hole, it has saved enough room to at least get the meals packed into a 10L dry bag

Has anyone ever tried to re package a freeze dried meal?
I usually dehydrate my own food but for simplicity reasons on my upcoming trip we have decided to go with the freeze dried mountain house meals...they sure make things simple at camp, but they are incredibly bulky items at take up lots of volume in our packs. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this same problem and possibly came up with a solution.
Thanks all!

Hey canoe Jeff, I'm also heading down the tim to rose berry in a couple weeks, then continuing down the tim towards misty.   Water levels this year have also been a concern of mine.  However I was up at cedar lake last weekend and I spoke with jake at the Brent store who told me that the lakes have come up a foot and a half in the last few weeks so water levels should be ok.

Let's hope he's right!

I head into rose berry early morning on the 20th

That's awesome, I love the rock solid garunte from MEC.  I myself used it when my saloman tech amphibian 3s had the toe stitching bust open on the big toe. (I beat the HELL outta these shoes for 4 years). Walked into MEC, walked out with a brand new pair.

I just came out of cedar on Saturday morning.   My trip started Tuesday, told them at the Mnr office I may come out Friday, the staff member told me. "If you are out before 2:30pm Friday we will refund your extra day charge".   I could have got back the whole $11!!! Haha!
