I still feel like the border will be open in September although I feel there may be certain stipulations for us Americans like a quarantine plan, negative test, or both and most certainly proof of vaccination.

Really good article.  Thanks for this.  Honestly this could hold true for anyplace, not just Algonquin.  I've seen some first timers in the Boundary Waters that were in over their heads and would do well by reading this.

OP, bear in mind if you do decide on an ADK trip that New York state has a 14 day quarantine rule for many states. Not sure where your from but there are a few canoeing opportunities in the UP of Michigan, some well known, others not so much. PM me if you need info. I'm not familiar with it at all but I heard Maine is nice as well. Then there's always the boundry waters, but that will be super busy with the border closed.

+1 on a dedicated canoe pack.  You won't regret the purchase.  They just sit so much better in the canoe as well.  The one I have now is just a cheapo Chinoock Chemun but honestly it's held up really well and I really like all the extra pockets but I have my eye on upgrading to a Hybrid pack from Cooke Custom Sewing.  I see a lot of people in Canada are using the MEC slogg.  Also be careful how large you go on the pack. For solo I find that 70 liters is just about the perfect size.

From a fellow American, don't plan on canoeing again in Canada until next spring at the earliest.  Frankly I don't blame them for wanting us out. Sucks I know but as the saying goes, this too shall pass.  I have just taken trips closer to home. Places I haven't been in years and new areas that I have been meaning to go to.

Couple island sites on Rain (Rain lake access) if your fortunate enough to get them otherwise Rain is a nice relatively quite lake with many nice sites. Does have motor access though.  Jubilee is a beautiful lake as well only a couple short portages over. No island sites though. If using Magnetawan or Rain access I recommend Algonquin Basecamp as an outfitter.

A big thank you to Theycallmemorty.  Thank goodness for the internet!  I NEVER would have been able to figure that out myself.  Now if someone can just come up with a way to bypass the "your selected lake is too far away, please pick another" error!

Honestly, seeing all those overgrown campsites makes me really want to visit that part of the park.  Like Mark said, I want to camp here just because no one else has.

Wow, that is a great deal.  I already have the trekker, xlite and xtherm models.  Too bad they don't ship to the states though, for that price I would buy another trekker for my dog.

That C-130 flyover was super cool!  Do you know if it was based out of camp Petawawa?

Just got done watching day 6.  That was a seriously long day.  Really liked seeing the footage of the little Madawaska river as this route has always intrigued me.

In the U.P. (which has less water than Ontario) they are horrible and I vowed never to do it again.  I just don't want to be stuck in a bug shelter and wearing a bug shirt all day.  I head out in May and then August and Sept.  With that being said though, at least in Michigan, the fishing seems to be the best when the bugs are the worst.
