Did they change the rules for parking and using the airfield? Thought I heard that you now have to use the parking area just west of Mew. Seems odd considering the fact that there is a convenient parking lot in Mew.
Have fun regardless![]()

Winter backcountry camping is no longer permitted in the Mew Lake Airfield area. This area is now used for a new Airfield Ski Trail. You may still use the Air Field parking lot to access the backcountry, but you must travel beyond the restricted area.

I did not know that. Thanks for the quick responses. Good news is we are not actually in the air strip. So all good.

Also picking wild blue berries that grow in the air strip is now off limits.
That is a no, no . The blue berries are for the bears and other wild life only . Signs are posted . No blue berry pancakes or smoothies for campers.
I wonder what the amount of the fine is for picking berries ?

I get that one. Safety and kindness to bears. Not camping in such a wide area just so peoe can ski, not so understandable to me. But it forces more people to campgrounds I suspect and they make more money. Or some people cried about the campers in airstrip and we have to accommodate anyone who complains.

My sources have told me that people have whined about winter campers using the Mew Lake facilities.
Washrooms , ice skating rink and bagged fire wood at a discounted price for camping in the air field . Yes follow the money !
