Opinion??

Just wondering if anyone knows or has an educated opinion on what the most under  utilized area of the park might be?? I'm guessing  North East or area North of Aylen Lake . O'Neil / Robataille  for instance?? Maybe I'm just assuming that as we're always entering from west side or 60. Any thoughts??

Re: Opinion??

That would be my guess, I've never been myself.  Hopefully somebody that knows will chime in and give you the answer your looking for.
Last number of trips I've been out of Brent.  The 40km gravel road thins out the herd a little.  At least enough for me.  I find it gives me a solid "disconnect" from civilization even before I get a canoe in the water.
You sound like your in trip planning mode for next year.
That's what I'm working on now.

Thanks. I'm  kinda always in trip planning mode lol!
The wheels are definitely  turning. Ive been in to Robataille  on a solo day trip. I think it'd be worth spending some time in that area for sure.

Re: Opinion??

I would put it in a couple of categories. Underutilized for good reason (Like don't go there). And underutilized because they fly under the radar.

Underutilized for good reason would include Clydegale-Branch (not including Little Hay). And Gerald-Bissett. Both areas are stupid to get to so they don't see much traffic.

Underutilized because they fly under the radar, Robitaille-Roundbush for sure. The other one is everything west of Canoe-McCraney. It's weird but no one in a canoe goes there.

Yes, I too love starting out of Brent for this reason. There are a number of great options that can get you in a very quiet park area within a day's paddle and a couple of portages. To date, we only have experiences launching from Brent, Kiosk, North River and Kawawaymog but I would definitely like to start checking out some of the lesser used access points going forward. The area around Robitaille is certainly intriguing. The area of the Park around Dividing Lake also piques my interest...

Now that you mention it, in all of my treks I don't recall ever seeing a canoe on any of the canoe route lakes which intersect with the Western Uplands Trail, aside from Rain and Islet.

Good point . I've been to Ahmek District of the park. Nice area and quiet for sure. Brent is a good option as well.

Thanks!

Re: Opinion??

I just finished a first trip through Ahmek with my brother.  Sample size of one, but we didn't cross paths with another canoe for almost six days.  Had to portage to a lot of portages, though...

Re: Opinion??

I did Ahmek at ice-out and it was the only time I've lost a portage in Algonquin.  Multiple times through multiple portages.  Neat to see, but I'm not running back there with a canoe.

Been up this way. Camped on Hiram during a Dog Sled trip. Definitely  a not well travelled area of the park.

Clover lake?

I suspect it's more used than I think but I've never seen anyone in the Fassett loop

Any of the lakes between Hay Lake and Branch Lake. The Brian Lake Access Point. The Bissett Lake area and the Lakes south of Mole Lake. I think mainly these lakes aren't used much due to the lack of maintenance on the portages and the fact that these lakes are hard to make loops out of
