Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

Has anyone noticed fewer canoe camping videos being released on YouTube this winter? Have many content creators stopped releasing videos? Any reasons why creators may have stopped releasing content?  Noticed numerous canoe camping channels haven't released content this winter. Past winters recall many more canoe camping videos were regularly released on YouTube.

Thank you to everyone who's worked on a canoe camping video. Appreciate your efforts so much. Love watching canoe camping videos especially when the lakes are frozen. Always admired YouTube content creators. Particularly for "putting yourself out there", carrying the extra equipment, filming and the time you spend editing while also maintaining your channel. Incredible work! So much time and effort involved!! Subscribe to YouTube channels featuring Ontario canoe camping trips. Missing your content, content creators!

Re: Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

I can't speak on behalf of anyone else, but for me personally it has just been about managing time. My camping season ended early November and I've spent November, December, and now January working on the massive backlog of website content (trip reports, campsite reports, developed campgrounds, and a significant amount of photo processing). I'm hoping to spend a good portion of February and March working on YouTube videos, that will probably get published throughout March - June.

YouTube videos are extremely time consuming to create. Sifting through countless hours of footage, editing it all together, audio level matching, music, transitions, sound effects, exporting and reviewing, thumbnails, etc. Most people don't make money from YouTube (or a very small amount) so it's a lot of work for not much result. I can understand the motivation dropping over time if the channel isn't properly monetized

Re: Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

Yep, same thing here.
I've got a trip from September halfway editted, but it's taking it's sweet time.  I hope to have it out before springtime.

The other thing is that I don't publicly publish every video because either it's just a boring trip or my younger kids are in it (and I'm wary about putting that out on YouTube).

Booked my Ice Out trip for May 2nd-5th though, so hopefully that's fine by Xmas!

Re: Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

I've pretty much lost interest in most canoe tripping videos. They bore me. For me, they feel too long and spend too much time focusing on the minutia of each day. Not to mention most of the time the camera is pointed at someone's face instead of the country they are in. It has to be a pretty incredible trip, a great story or an engaging personality to get my attention. Frank Wolf trip videos have all this! Too bad he quit making them.

Still, every now and then I will put a video out of my own. Mine are pretty much garbage and I don't usually have enough content to put together anything resembling a story. Mostly I make them because its a fun creative outlet and I like looking back on them. I have a couple of trips from the last 2 years that I will open, tinker with for a bit and then close LOL! I might put one out for a Wabakimi trip this winter.

Hope you release more videos MartinG! A Wabakimi trip video release would be fun to watch. Found your channel and subscribed years ago when seeking Meanest Link videos. Love to follow your video adventures with a map. Agree that Frank Wolf adventures are awesome!

Re: Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

I seemed to notice an influx of content contributors as the pandemic started and more sprouting up as dragged on. Perhaps for some, it was out if necessity being out of work during that time and now things have returned to normal-ish for them and they no longer have the time or drive.  Hopefully the higher caliber creators endure and have longevity. There's more than a handful I really enjoy watching and learning from. Great resources for motivation and fresh  tripping ideas for new areas to discover. I see allot of familiar names out there from here and other pages I follow that keep me intrigued and anxiously awaiting their next video drops. I'm sure time management has a huge impact on  release times.  I am overly impressed with the amount of work and time just acquiring the content takes not to mention the editing afterward.  I feel I wouldn't get anywhere in a day if filming while on trip LOL! Many thanks to those that take the time to capture and share their  experiences. Amazing.

Frank's trip partner from his recent northern trip put out a 2 part series.  Short and sweet, featuring the great humour of Frank.

Re: Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter?

It's been quite a while since I posted any video and even longer since I put together a complete trip. For me personally the transition happened because we finally got our cottage to a state where going up for a weekend in the winter is a fun getaway rather than a once or twice a year survival adventure. It's good news for me because I'm getting to spend more time outdoors and where I love to be but the side effect is that I don't have the quiet/idle time in the winter which is when I used to put trip reports together.

Thank you! Only Frank would do a trip like that. No need to fly into the Hood River. Paddle hundreds of kilometres upstream and overland to get there. Can't afford a flight out after Wilberforce Falls? Continue along the Northwest Passage to Kugluqtuk! Also love how calm he was with that grizzly bear.

Frank is a different breed, that's for sure.  He goes into detail about the grizzly encounter on Jim's podcast.  Fun fact, that was his partners first ever canoe trip!
