Ice Out 2022

Any thoughts on the ice moving out, its getting very spring like in Southern Ontario. It would be nice to finally have an ice out trip after ice out and not in June like the past 2 seasons!

Re: Ice Out 2022

Drove to Haliburton from North Bay today and all of the lakes were snow free with bare ice but all tight to shore... its a good start but we are a ways away yet!

Re: Ice Out 2022

Looks like some rain and warmer temps are in the forecast for next week, hoping to get up that way by next weekend.

Re: Ice Out 2022

Was at Kiosk today, lake still very white and obviously completely ice covered.... a LONG ways away from where it was on this same weekend last year.

Re: Ice Out 2022

I was chatting with the chef from Bartlett Lodge today, he lives in Oxtongue Lake in the winter. He drilled a hole into Cache Lake two days ago and reported a total thickness of 21". About 5" of crap ice, six inches of water and the rest good solid ice. We are a ways off, especially since overnight temps next week are consistently below freezing.

Re: Ice Out 2022

We were at Kiosk on Saturday for the entire day and there were snowmobiles ripping back and fourth on the lake in/out of manitou i'm assuming, ice still tight to shore... but they were struggling a little with cooling as it was bare ice.

Re: Ice Out 2022

The Weather looks to be getting more spring like this week. I picked April 28th on the AO ice out contest but i cant see that happening. I'm booked for May 12th, hopefully were good for that!

The link should take you to the Spring In Algonquin Page, they have an image that updates every 15 mins on lake of two rivers.

Re: Ice Out 2022

Well its Monday Morning and i just found out I'm supposed to be at a conference May 16-17, so much for my Algonquin Trip May 12- 17 that i just booked yesterday, so now I'm hoping for an earlier ice out than May 12.

Cant seem to catch a break,

This coming Thurs and Fri are looking pretty good for wind, temps and rain - should see a marked difference in ice cover by Sunday

Re: Ice Out 2022

Have a trip booked May 16-22....but looks like I'm going to be starting a new job, and likely starting it on the 16th!

For those that are closer to the park (I'm in Toronto), you think the chances are pretty good it opens up for May 9? If it does, then I won't have to burn any vacation days!

Re: Ice Out 2022

I think the majority of lakes in APP will be open by May 9th if this current weather continues. Forgot to mention, Firth Lake up in Gowganda is ice free as of today.

Re: Ice Out 2022

Thanks for the updates, you guys rock!

I was insanely excited for this trip (Misty, 2 nights White Trout, Timberwolf, 2 nights Queer), and now even more so as I'll be leaving the company I've worked at for 15 years. It should be an excellent trip to completely relax and reset, and I'm really hoping to see some moose!

Nice to hear when trip planning works out,
The kind a couple of years that it's been for me as well I too am looking forward to my trip and forgetting about work.  I'll be travelling some of those lakes as well during the same time frame.  Perhaps we will cross paths.  Safe Travels!!
