Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new pair of tripping pants. Ideally something in a medium weight, not convertible (hate them), to be used during shoulder season, especially spring trips.
Reinforced knees and butt would be awesome but they seem to be seldom made anymore.
Anyone have any recomendations?

Hey Moonman... have you tried Prana Zion's? Not new been around a while..Come in Convertible and Non Convertible versions.

Fjallraven. Although I usually wear MEC Mochillera or Columbia convertibles because they dry faster.

I got a pair of MEC pants last year on clearance (sorry I can't recall the model) and they are fantastic. Very reasonably priced, comfy and so far they seem durable

Funny, I just was reading about fjallraven's from a Explore magazine article. A bit expensive but probably worth it. They do look perfect. I wonder if they ever go on sale?
And shawnD, yeah I have always liked the prana zions but they we better in the first versions that came out about 8 years or so. Those versions had double knees and butt, and were more articluated at the knee as well. I got turned off them when I went to buy a pair a few years ago and realized they had changed. Still, maybe I will look into them again.

Moonman, I try not to look too much at Fjallraven.. really like their stuff I have a few items but needs to be on sale.. just too pricey.
Altitude Sports has been known to put it on sale from time to time. Members get 5% off everything on top of sales prices as well. Just need to watch and wait..these look up your alley..

You just missed Fjallravens Black Friday and Boxing week sales 20-30% off. I know a few people with Vidda Pro pants and they love em. Although if you spend $150-250 on a pair of pants you better love em. Rail Riders are another tough pant. Personally I like convertible pants and I will never spend $150 on a pair of trekking pants. So, any brand of mid weight convertible trekking pants works for me.

I like the Prana Zions, as they are just the right weight for three seasons; not too thick for summer. I agree the old ones were better at the knee, and had two zippered side pockets versus the current one, but the new ones have a much better belt system, stretchier fabric, and are more quick drying. I don't wear the convertible style so i can't vouch for that.
