HI all, i'm planning a 2 night, 3 day canoe trip first weekend in May. was looking at Access Point 1 or 2 and suggestions of a 3 day loop. should i be concerned about ice being fully out or out enough there might be issues? previously did a 3 day out of Magnetewaan and it was great, looking for something a little more remote versus Hwy 60 corridor

Take a look at the ice-out thread in catch-all discussions, but I'd say we're mostly feeling pessimistic about ice-out this year. There's a lot of snow and thick ice. I rebooked my May 4th start to May 13 a few days ago.
As to loops... 3 days doesn't give you a ton of options, but I guess it depends on the weather you get and how hard you want to work. North Tea might be a frightening place to be when the water's still dangerously cold, so I'd suggest you hug the North side to the portage into Sisco, to Lorne, then it depends on your ambition level. You could just stay on Lorne, or push on to Kakasamic or Fassett. If it's looking like good weather days you could then head down Fassett creek to Manitou and stay there night 2, then paddle out the next day. If the weather's not going to be on your side you could just stay on those smaller lakes and head out the same way you came in, avoiding having to paddle most of the big water in dangerous conditions.
Access point 2 is nothing but low maintenance portages everywhere, and I haven't been over most of them to comment on their condition. But at ice-out there will be some blowdowns for sure, even if recently cleared, so any loop might end up a pretty frustrating experience. Plus there might be issues with the access road that early in the season.
The 3480 from Rosebary to David creek I've been over, and aside from a creek in the middle you'll have to navigate, it's mostly a former logging road so is wide, flat and good footing throughout. But of course going that way will lead you to eight low maintenance portages from Mubwayaka back to Tim.
You might just want to basecamp on Rosebary and explore from there.

Thanks for the notes. reading the ice out thread doesn't leave me confident. but luckinly i have flexibility to rebook my days off if need be. we did a trip last fall 3 days that was reasonable. Magnetawan Lake access (#3) to Hambone Lake, Daisy Lake, Petawawa River, Little Misty Lake, Queer Lake, Little Trout Lake, Ralph Bice Lake and back out through Hambone Lake and Magnetawan Lake. we'll see what the start of this season has for us. any other hints/suggestions from other contributors is welcomed!

The 2 best short loops., that can be done in 2 nights IMO are:
Enter at Rock Lake
Night 1 Welcome, Harry or Rence
Night 2 Louisa
I know its Hwy 60 but if you stay on Rence night 1 It only has 2 sites. Likely see very few people. The 3 km portage still keeps out a lot of people from Louisa. It will be busier but shouldn't be too bad.
or
Enter Kiosk
Night 1 Mouse
Night 2 Erables or Maple

I agree that the Rock Lake loop is one of nicest large loops you can do in 2 nights. Welcome, Harry, and Rence all have nice sites but my preference is Rence for its solitude. The more west of the two sites has a long rocky outcropping for lounging and the tent/fire area is set back and sheltered. If you spent 2 days on that site then you could do a day trip and explore further upstream on the Galipo River.

X3 on this suggestion. It's a terrific loop for a 3 day trip. It can be decent fishing* too, if you hit it right.
*Check out the special fishing restrictions on Harry, Welcome, Rence - no organic bait i believe. Been awhile since i was in there, but I think the restrictions are still in effect.
