I don't take any other method of water filtration other than my Platypus. I love the thing. Because there is next to nothing to set up and it filters water quite quickly there would be few occasions where it would be truly impractical to set up.

Let's cover all our bases and I'll say West Galipo.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a trip report from when you visited this site? I think it would be a cool place to visit and would love to see what kind of trip you incorporated it into.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you fish barbless? Why have you made the decision that you have?

For those who do fish barbless, here are a few follow up questions:
Do you fish barbless when targeting all species of fish?
Do you fish barbless only when in Algonquin?
Do you put new hooks on all your lures, or squish the barb down with pliers?

Awesome, thanks for the ID swede and Dan. I looked up some pictures and I would say you guys are certainly correct in saying that it's a fallfish. I've never heard of that type of fish before so I appreciate the info.

I caught this fish last summer on Kitty Lake. Is it a chub? Are these fish common in the park?

Interesting. So it seems that the majority would advise saving for a little bit and investing in the $342 CCS bag? Did everyone who owns one order directly from their website?

I'm in the market for a new bag so I dug up this thread for ideas. I've been considering the Hybrid Bag from Cooke Custom Sewing, but at $342 CAD (after shipping and current exchange rates) I'm thinking I might be wise to consider other options.

Seeing as this thread is quite old at this point, does anyone have any new recommendations, or old recommendations they still want to heartily reaffirm?

Yellowcanoe - you and your wife must be incredibly fit! "Really easy" is not how I would describe the 100m incline for the first 1000 m of the portage with a pack and canoe…but that could be my middle age and too many superfluous things in our food pack talking!

Nope, not just your middle age. I was 25 when I first did that portage and also found that incline to be a beast. I was glad my buddy took the canoe for that one.

As for Rattrap, we stayed on it two years ago. Wasn't an awful site but I wouldn't be too eager to stay there again. The whole site is sloped and you could definitely notice it when it came time to lay down and sleep.

I keep seeing updates on Facebook so I've checked it out a couple times. Earlier today it was just a couple of ravens but looks like the fox is there now. Pretty neat.

Hope you guys are right about the CCS pack. I've made the decision to start saving and replace the awful bag that I've got now.

Have a CCS as well going on 3-4 years now. Thing is bombproof. My camping buddy bought one as well this year after hearing me sing its praises.

With two people praising this bag I am now intrigued. I currently pack my gear into the MEC Serratus 85, and truth be told I hate it. I wouldn't mind finding a new bag for my tripping. Obviously the CCS is quite a different style, but do you fit all of your gear (tent and sleeping bag included) inside of it? Shawn mentioned the Pioneer size, but what one do you use RCSpartan?
