Finding yourself that close to an unknowing animal is not great (unless you're hunting). I think you handled the situation well - trying not to startle it while within stomping range. That said, I think he must have smelled you - either he didn't care or has never smelled human before. My bet is the former.

Maybe things are different in that part of Ontario, but round, bally moose scat indicates winter production. Summer poop is more, well... gooey.

I have Eureka's SS 115 and 75 packs. No complaints.
My Eureka 115 was rock solid for many years but 2 years ago the glue holding the top of the harness to the pack fail catastrophically. I say catastrophically not because of any injury but because it failed all at once leaving a gaping hole in the pack and leaving it without a carry harness.
I did reach out to Eureka that winter to ask about repairing it and the reply was that it could not be repaired. I'm sure I can repair it with a waterproof glue (g-flex?) the same as you would use for fastening d-rings to a canoe.
Odds are that I'll go with a SeaLine for the next one since my son's SeaLine is only about a year younger and still going strong. I really liked the extra handles on the Eureka and it lasted a good 10 years or more.
Thanks - I'll keep a closer eye on it.

You need to make your own decisions about risks, but a UCO candle lantern eliminates condensation problems.

Contract IT work - how little can you deliver without violating the terms? And no offense intended to our developer community, but my experience with most has been similar to being granted wishes by a genie - form your requests wisely and with great care.

The information is already there?! That means one should be able to get the information via a userscript.

I'm just admiring/in awe of the seemingly spotless, light-coloured carpet. That would last less than a week at my place.

Here's mine...
I took my 18 year-old nephew on his first canoe camping trip - it was late August, last year. A "there-and-back," we arrived on Pinetree day 1, traveled to Sylvia day 2, spent day 3 in camp, then made straight out day 4.
It was day 2 afternoon. We had finished setting up our site for the next day and a half and decided to take the canoe around the lake. It was bluebird weather. We were north of the campsite - in between it and Sylvia's little island when a red-tailed hawk alit on the tip of the most prominent of the black spruce that lined the shore. Boys will be boys - my nephew decided to attempt communication with the bird. "Hey!" he yelled. One Mississippi... two Mississippi... three Mississippi... "Hey!" was the reply which seemed to emanate from a location deep in the woods to the north. He turned back to look at me inquisitively, as if the old guy should have an answer. From what I recalled of my trip planning/"map poring" stage, there shouldn't be any "structure" that would produce an echo coming from that direction. "Do it again" I said. This time, nothing. The inquisitive look changed to confusion. But we had not stopped the canoe and were now at least 50 yards from where the original event occurred. Could there be that tight of a "sweet-spot" for an echo? "Do it again." This time the Mississippi count went up to 4 and the reply was an off-key "heEey!" Goosebumps. His look of confusion changed to fear and I was trying hard not to reciprocate. My thoughts turned to the possibility that there may be people messing with us - but there's nothing in that part of the park. Then, to my simultaneous relief and disbelief, two ravens come swooping out of the forest and fly directly over us. My nephew had succeed in his original endeavor, just with a different party. I knew ravens did this sort of thing - but I have never heard such a perfect mimic from them before.

The holes were there to let your dignity out. Where's it going to go now?
I get it - I'm just not sure whether I should have stuff delivered to my work or home address. That question might be answered for me very soon.

I don't mind sharing pike fishing info... I can attest to there being pike in Booth - particularly in the large bay leading to McCarthy's (also lots of barn flies - protect your ankles!) I've been told that their are some monsters in the Shall/Depot narrows.

Hey Ryan .... such a personal choice eh .
Have found most footwear without Vibram soles are as slippery as hell on wet surfaces .
These Vibram soled Danners have plenty of miles on them .... after eight years , they were my first choice to snow blow the laneway today . Have found a modest use of mink oil helps keep the toes dry .
Pricey for sure , worth every penny .
Nice boots, John

I wear boots on portage and old, mesh-top running shoes in the boat. I made a bag that clips onto my canoe pack to carry the alternate footwear.

So what happens then when those that don’t want a new horse, never asked for a new horse and felt that the old horse wasn’t too bad have their horse slaughtered for really no good reason?
To be fair - we aren't the horse owners - we are the beneficiaries of the plowed field. The horse owner was promised a stronger animal that consumed half the feed, thereby freeing up capital to fix the barn roof. They got screwed and we got a half-plowed field.
