Not sure how you got that.

Pardon the pun but this seems all academic to me. When the floodgate that is holding back would-be campers opens, the park will not be somewhere I am anxious to visit. Not because of an elevated health risk associated to the virus, but because it will be trashed. On the final night of our trips, we like to camp close to the take out to accommodate our 5 hour drive home. In the Spring of 2019 we made the mistake of selecting the campsite on Pen right across from the portage to Rock. It was May 22nd and the site was dotted throughout with TP. The previous night we had stayed on the northern-most campsite on Clydegale and some numpty had cut down a bunch of 8" diameter pines with an electric chainsaw to use as firewood.
Does anyone believe that Parks will be increasing the ranger budget to account for the elevated usage by the clueless?
Apologies for my pessimism.

I can confirm Booth - specifically in the dead end where the PCI lists campsites 13 and 14. Also, Kitty right before the portage back into Farm. I don't mind catching bass, but one thinks trout when on a camping trip in the north, no?

We mostly stick to freeze-dried meals a la Mountain House / Alpine Aire, but I got creative one time and cut up some pepperettes and mixed them into a savory bannock dough. Got a nice carb buzz off of that.

I have a booking for St. Andrews / St. Francis starting on the 17th. Waiting for the cancellation notice - I wonder what La Verendrye will look like...

I saw this coming so I downloaded the Google Earth kmz file. I actually like it much better - you can use all of the Google Earth tools right on the Jeffsmap overlay.

Scale is hard to judge but it kind of looks like the top of Clydegale.

…
First off if we tried to put this burden on the rental outfits, there would be an immediate conflict of interest. I think a direct comparison would be placing the burden of driver certification and licensing on rental car companies.
That comparison leads to the 2nd reason which is that it is a well established, and hard learned, best practice that when a there is a formal requirement for 'vetting' or certification then the certification process needs to be done by an independent organization such as the MTO as opposed to an industry organization.
In the boating field, the current example is the "Pleasure Craft Operator's Card" which is mandatory to operate a motorboat, but which is an online 'course' and 'test' run by for profit companies with no hands on training, no meaningful proctoring so that cheating by having someone else complete the test is common, and most of the content is utterly irrelevant to Ontario cottage lakes. In addition to the natural resistance to increased regulation, there is significant opposition to a mandatory 'canoe operators' license as being a pointless feel good political exercise that will increase barriers to entry to paddle sports without increasing safety or education in any way.
And finally, the geographic nature of lakes and rivers and oceans quickly invalidates any vetting including in this case. Water bodies come in all shapes and sizes. This includes Opeongo where a novice paddler could rent a canoe, "pass" some sort of vetting and be "permitted" to leave shore with the clear instruction to stay in the relatively sheltered southern bay south of the outfitters down to Costello Creek. Of course once a novice but ambitious paddler leav

Before we get too far off topic, we must acknowledge the heroic efforts of Krista Petrie-Wallace and Glenn Wallace in this rescue effort. The two survivors almost certainly would have died had they not intervened. In my opinion, Glenn took quite a risk in attempting to rescue 3 people, who cannot swim, underprepared, and with a language barrier, by himself. Brave. Heroic. Heroes.
And there's the physical effort he put in. Thankfully for both the survivors and him that he had it in him to begin with. Imagine being in his position, having the empathy and courage to help in such dangerous conditions, but running out of steam part-way through? Hats off for sure.

"Reminder" implies that one had the knowledge to begin with.

My condolences to the family of the deceased - truly tragic.

In your 3rd pic, to the right you can see the rock outcrop that marks a site that I particularly enjoyed for its relative proximity and not being on the main route.
I could use a quick break but it doesn't bode well for me this year. Thanks for the pictures - it helps.

Both of my hammocks are double layer so when I do use a pad (summer) it goes in between. I use a cheap, blue, closed cell foam pad.
