The site on the point of the bay leading into the portage to Lake LaMuir is an EXCELLENT site for what you are looking for.  This is the site I always try to stay on when camping/fishing on Big Trout.

Thank you, Bo!
Just by looking at the map, you get a feeling that site would be worth a visit!!

Wow! That is pretty brutal.... I just hope this doesn't continue to get worse every year. It seems like more and more people are getting into the backcountry every season!

Hey, everyone!
I'm heading to Big Trout with a decent size group in about a week. I've done quite a bit of research (PCI and Trip Logs) on Big Trout, trying to get hints and a better idea of which sites to pick from. I ask for Big Trout because this is the lake we'll be staying 2 nights on, so I'd love to settle in on an AMAZING site ;) Ideally, with a Sunset view, great swimming, good tent pads, and a great firepit/kitchen!

We enter from Otterslide Creek and will be exiting via Merchant although we don't mind paddling the length of the lake for a site that is worth it!

Any suggestions, thoughts, and photos would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!!

Hey everyone!
I was just reading posts on the Campsite Pirates thread and it reminded me of an odd campsite situation on Head Lake my friends and I had this Spring. Thought I'd share and ask if anything like this has ever happened to anyone else?
We got to this site after passing by the waterfall site which was occupied, only to find the firepit smoking quite a bit. With no canoes, tents, packs or people in sight, we thought that the previous campers may have left without properly putting out the fire. After a looking around the site to make sure we weren't intruding on other campers we ended up finding a full bag of Doritos, a 3/4 full bottle of Jack Daniels, some Vodka and here is the really weird find that stuck with me, about 8 chicken breasts ditched some 20 feet behind the site..... Our initial thoughts were that a group of campers were coming back, or that a group of campers had an emergency and had to get out as fast as they could...... OR this is what we went with - A bunch of drunk idiots that have no business camping in the backcountry camped here and left within the hour of us arriving.
It was a pretty odd situation and we really did not know what to make of it. We ended up burning the chicken breasts, eating the Doritos, emptying the booze and bringing back the bottles (it was our 2nd to last night, our food barrel had room and was getting pretty light).
Anyways... Hope everyone is having a great summer so far! Heading back to the park the last week of July!

Hey, everyone!

This Spring our first trip of the year will be the latest it's ever been after Ice Out.
We head out early morning on May 12th. We've never had any issues with black flies or mosquitoes in the past for our spring trips, but we`ve also never been out this late after Ice Out.

I was hoping to get some feedback and thoughts on what to expect? Heading South of the 60 this time around.

Thank you!

Thank you for the photos!!
We've been eyeing this loop for a while so I think we will definitely push on. Might make for a longer day but we are up for it. Leaves are at Peak now too... Should be awesome!

Hey everyone!

I hope everyone has been enjoying the summer months!!

I'll be heading off on my last camping trip of the season in the next couple of weeks and I was hoping to get some feedback on certain sections of the loop we plan on doing.

It will be our first time departing from the Opeongo access point and we will be doing the Proulx, Big Crow, Lavieille, Dickson Loop.

I'm wondering about the Rapid sections I see on Jeff's Map.

The first section is right after the Former McLaughlin Logging Bros. Logging Camp.
The second is along the 1220M Portgage.
The third sets are along the last 4 small portages of the Crow.

There is no portage around the first set, so I'm assuming those are pretty mellow. How are the remaining sets??

Thank you for any input on my specific questions and any questions or comments on the route itself are also appreciated!!

Hey!
I'm planning our (our being 3 couples in 2 canoes) yearly 4 night/5day trip to Algonquin Park and I would love to get some feedback and/or suggestions on this well known route.

End of July. We depart from Montreal at about 3AM to get to the Opeongo access point by around 7:30-8h00.
We'd rent our boats from Algonquin Outfitters and hop on the Water Taxi.

From what I've read, I really think everyone would absolutely enjoy staying on Lavieille for 2 nights. That being said, where should we stay the other 2 nights? We can not extend this trip, and I know some of the people in our goup are not keen on paddling everyday (hence the chill day on Lavieille). Is this loop too long? We do single carries on portages which helps our cause.... I'm just uncertain of where to plan on spending night 1 and night 4... Water Taxi back of course.

What do you think!? Thanks!

I just listened to a voice mail telling me that my Reservation for May 4th is not valid as it is not opening until May 6th. I wonder if it is because I was supposed to be heading in at cedar and beyond?  I just saw a picture of the Brent Rd....still snow covered!

Yeah it's because of Cedar... They just put up an update. The other backcountry access points are still the same Tentative dates...
