In 1961 Brunton and Clyde townships were added to the park through the Algonquin Park Expansion Act. It's also because of this act that you can hunt there.

Judging by those tallboys it must be one just outside the park. ;)

Or, maybe Catfish

Strange, I've never had any issues with feet overheating.  Then again,I carry a ultralight trail runners for around camp and, I typically trip during the shoulder seasons and my boots are soaked from day 1 to day 20.  Put ins and take outs are so much simpler and faster when you're not concerned about getting wet. I routinely step out of my canoe knee deep to avoid as much land contact with the canoe as possible, often to time saved waiting for others to clear the landing while several more float 50ft away waiting for others to clear in order to avoid get their feet wet.

Why would you choose Gortex boots?

In general that is a poor area for Trout fishing. You can portage into Marie. It is stocked with Brookies. Probably not worth it, as it's one of the steepest portages in  Algonquin.

You can certainly make it up stream. Just something to be cognicent of. The put in can be a little tight in High Water. A pain in the butt if you get swept back down stream.

In May the current can be a bit pushy going upstream between McManus, Smith and Whitson. Can sweep you right back down the rapid you portages up.

This year's low water, it may not be a big deal.

My guess is the ice will be out on Ope in 4 days and the park opens on the 19th.

Is it new? A neck gasket should be snug but not tight. It can feel uncomfortable at first. They are tapered and have trim lines. Just trim with scissors bit by bit.

They do loosen up slightly over time. Some people Stretch them out with a pop bottle or similar before they are going to wear them.

I have car camped at Achray 6 or 8 times. Fished it casually every time. I've never got a nibble in Grand. Don't remember seeing anyone come back with a trout in the boat either. The occasional bass yes. I'm sure some must be in there down deep. But generally it's not considered a good fishing lake.
