Trip Reports » Little Island Lake solo, November 3-5, 2015 » 11/08/2015 4:32 pm

Thanks for posting the shots. Brings back memories. I last camped there in 1991 on the other end of the island with a group of scouts in August. We were hit with the worst coon attack in memory. Three of them in broad daylight while we were setting up, ripping the food packs apart. There was a rope swing over the water to keep the kids occupied. We went all the way to Louisa Lake the next day.

Here is the picture of the blade-table.

10 Years ago Barry and I stayed on site 1 on Daisy and the sawblade was our table. It looks too big to carry by canoe so how did it get to the island?

Trip Planning » Tim Lake - 4 Campsites or 5? » 9/22/2015 2:14 pm

We always knew that some of the sites were not reserveable but the new map system of booking shows exactly how many are held back. I booked a site on Islet Lake for the past August long weekend for my daughters group and was surprised to see 3 sites allowed. Islet has 7 canoe sites and 5 backpacking sites. I wonder what the thinking was with such a wide range of reservables and the big variance in numbers  between lakes?

Great shots.. I was on Kiosk in late July and your photos show a much lower water level than we had. I have seen photos from others trips where the lake is almost too high to get under the train bridge in a canoe and with no beach at all at the launch near the permit office. Is this natural or is the dam dropped in August? Love the black and white of the old vehicle artifact left at the logging camp.

Equipment » Crocs in the Park? » 8/25/2015 12:55 pm

Hi Steve: For the past couple of years I have used Crocks (actually the cheapo knock off version) with a Dr. Scholls Active Series insert for the canoe and portages. I bring the hiking boots for backup. I went to this after suffering Plantar Fasciitis and it worked. The foot tendon pain and tenderness is gone. I haven't had a problem on portages and it doesn't matter it they get wet.

The top photo looks like Lake of 2 Rivers but I hope it's not from this year.

Nice video. What time of year was this? I'm wondering how fast the babies grow. The calf is a really good swimmer and seems to float quite well.

You are correct. It is the small island in the west end of Little Trout looking to the south. I actually caught (and released) a nice Brook Trout just after taking this. It's your turn now.

Great snapper pic. I hadn't seen one napping in the sun till this spring on Queer Lake. I never noticed before that they like to climb up on rocks in the lake. This was taken on May 9. The spikes on the back and tail do give them  a dinosaur look. It kind of puts you off swimming though.

You are close. I have pics of misty Magnetewan that look similar. This was that access we left from to get to the lake in the picture.

Not Rock Lake, try further north.

Since there is a lot of morning mist I'll start with a clue " West side of the park is closest access".

Barry took this photo a couple of weeks ago at the Kiosk Cabin. The vixen came right up to us at dusk and apparently has a den on the hill behind the park office.
