Oh well, next time!

The landing is actually on the southeast end of the island with the fire pit almost on the peninsula on that side. It's on of our favorite sites because there is a large rock face on the north east side that you can swim off

Are you referring to site 9 on the PCI map of Little Trout?
I was on the lake last year and stayed on site 5. 9 was one of my target sites but it was already occupied. We couldn't find it at first but if I recall correctly, the site is fairly hidden. We wouldn't have spotted it until we saw the occupants' canoe.

I guess so!! On the current Jeff's Maps the site is near the southeastern tip of the island which is where we were looking. We wound up paddling all the way around the island.

I wasn't even aware of site 5's location until you mentioned it to me. It's not marked on the currently available Jeff's Map.

Notwithstanding, we camped at site 11 (PCI ) and had a wonderful visit!

Amazing wildlife shots!!

Glad to see you took out that section of the Tim. We have done Little Trout to Big Trout via the Tim and it was 7am to 7pm straight. Lots of switchbacks and dams.

Yoiks!! That's a huge day!!

I had booked my end of July trip in April. It was agonizing. Of course all the planning is kind of fun too, so it takes the edge off!

Maybe there aren't a lot of poetry lovers or else they're all out camping?

After a few reads however, I feel the sentiment.

Having just returned from three nights with my daughter it's pretty much all I can think about...I now realize that 4 days in Algonquin is better than most other vacations I take...Although the work is hard and requires attention (food, shelter, transit etc) there is something about it that demands my attention fully. This makes everything back home seem small and unimportant. And the fact that I am completely unreachable underlines all this.

Thanks for your words!

I enjoyed it! We just got back from 4 days out there, specifically the Tim, and it was lovely seeing all that footage of you paddling along that never ending stream! I gotta say, it must be nice having a kayak when you have to power through those little openings in the beaver dams.

I wonder if your format will appeal to those who have already been there and just want to go back? I know that's how I felt.

Really enjoy the talking sessions too.

Too bad about the whole car smashing thing, I think it would have eaten away at me as well. That was a pretty huge last day as well, I hope you slept well!

Sounds like stable flies. I encountered them for the first time last year in Killarney, and again this year. Not the most pleasant flies to have around, although I didn't find their bite to welt. I never recall encountering them on earlier trips though, not sure what the story is.

Quite true! The bites didn't welt but darn it they hurt when they bit!

Thanks TT! My dad and I stayed on that island in 1995 lol, I was hoping to recreate that with my daughter.

To be fair, the spot we stayed in on the North shore was awesome as well! Slept great!!

We just returned from there, but I'm curious. When we paddled in to Little Trout, is was about 6pm. The one island campsite with one campsite indicated didn't seem to be there. The longer island (south) near the shore has two campsites that were occupied (sunset view!).

The reservation site online indicates 9 campsites, but Jeff's indicates 10. Could it be the government closed it for some rehab?

Thanks!

BTW this forum is great, helped me a lot in my planning!

My daughter and I just returned from three nights out of #3 and the Tim River campsite, you know the first one past the portage from Queer Lake, is 24 hours mosquitoes. Yes, it's in a marsh and the Moose are all over it, which is why we were there . Our other tow nights were by the narrows in Queer Lake leading to the Tim Portage and Little Trout. The mosquitoes only got bad at sunset.

There were flies that assailed my ankles in the canoe, dang it, they looked like houseflies but yoiks what a sting!
