Catch-all Discussions » Fewer canoe camping videos being released this winter? » 4/04/2025 11:40 am |
I agree, and I am also hoping to get back to creating more videos. I switched to a MAC and started learning Devinci for editing. It's been a daunting task for my 50 year old brain..
I do have 2, recent-ish videos from last years Spring Algonquin trip to Highfalls on the Nipissing.
Our group deposited my Canoe Partner/ brother in laws ashes there after he past of cancer. Its a special one for us. Channel is Stark Raving Mad Adventures if you care to check it out.
Cheers!
Trip Reports » Spring Algonquin Canoe trip with a purpose. » 8/12/2024 11:53 am |
Ealy this May our group of 8 traveled to Cedar lake at the top end of Algonquin park, as a tribute to my Brother in Law that Passed away from Cancer last year.
Gary was an avid Outdoorsman and every Spring, for over 20 years, we Canoe tripped together in Algonquin Park
One of Gary's last wishes before he past was for his 3 boys and Our group to take his ashes to his favorite spot in Algonquin, Highfalls on the Nipissing river.
It is a challenging route with over 11km of portaging and many km's of paddling.
I filmed and created a 2 part video that follows along on our Journey.
If you are interested you can check it out here.
It was an emotional journey and we were so happy to have the video's to look back on.
Thanks

Equipment » MSR Trailshot .. very small water filter. » 3/11/2019 1:14 pm |
While I do not have direct experience with this MSR filter, a friend of mine did have one and he thought it was just okay, It did seem a little slow, and you have to pump the whole time, I personally think there are better options..
I had a Sweetwater guardian for quite a few years and it worked relatively well, the filter ended up freezing on a trip and I gave up on it. I had read and saw a lot of information on the Sawyer Squeeze and Sawyer mini. I now have both and have setup the squeeze with a Coleman shower bag with filter inline as a gravity filter setup when I am with groups or with its own squeeze bag if I am solo. I also used my sawyer mini inline on a hydration bladder for adventure races over 8 hours. Each setup works great and I have had zero issues in 4 years of using the Squeeze as a gravity filter and my mini worked flawlessly in a 4 day adventure race last summer in Maine / New Hampshire. They are cheap and can be picked up at various places. I bought mine at a US Walmart, Good luck!

Tyvek (House wrap) is a water resistant, breathable material as well that can be made into a cheap bivy or even partial cover for your sleeping bag as well as other items, Tarps, ground sheet etc.
I currently use it as a ground sheet, but have been scheming on making a few items with it as I have some leftovers from a house build..
Google Tyvek Bivy for some reading.
I read washing the tyvek first, softens and quiets it considerably but still keeps its original water shedding breathable properties.

A light weight breathable bivy could possibly fill the void as well. SOL make a few models that may fit the bill without being too expensive or taking up too much space.
