Do not take risks and paddle according to your skill level. Portages may be flooded or partially snow covered. Posting to nobody in particular. In 2016 the ice was completely off Simcoe on March 30th.

Ice out for Opeongo was May 1st 2016 IIRC.

Obviously you didn't book Upper or Lower specticle but why didn't you check them out and see if there was a site to stay on for the night? 

I would have gone that route rather than go home.
