Ive had the first situation happen before, and we had our reservation papers and they refused to show us theirs. They basically told it's theirs and to go look for another. After about 30 minutes of arguing i yelled at them and told them to move their shit over or i was going to move it for them. It was already 7pm and no time to find another site.

They had the nerve to complain about my buddies smoking and us using "fowl language" The arrogance on these people was unbelievable.  They left before we woke up so it ended up being alright but i was furious, and the fact that there's really nothing you can do about it pissed me off.

I'm not too sure how it will be on july 12, but i spent 4 days in the park last week and the bugs were out in full force, with black flies being the worst. We had a little bit of wind which kept them at bay some times, but in the portage they're pretty brutal, on site, they come and go. No amount of deet can prevent them either. We were constant applying it and i sprayed all my clothing and equipment with that Permethrin spray and still got eaten.

I would just suggest to plan for the absolute worst bugs you can imagine, then if it's not that bad you'll be happy you were prepared anyway.

The 2 north east sites on Mouse are awesome, both linked by a nice beach.

Just got back from kiosk.

The rail bridge on kisok is well above the water line

No real issues with going down to mouse and back up though erables and maple creek.

There's a bunch of beaver dams in maple creek too.

Although the original poster is now presumably in the Park, I'll offer a bug update for anyone who might be interested, having just returned from a week-long trip.  The black flies during the past week were surprisingly bad for this time of year, despite the considerable heat.  Of course, mosquitoes are out in force now too, as are the usual deer flies that are prolific in June.  A great trip can be had, though, with a bit of preparing.  If your bug strategy includes bug repellant and having a bug-free environment at the campsite, such as a bug shelter--especially for the dawn/dusk periods--you'll have no worries.  A great time to be in the Park right now, with the warm weather, and before the summer crowds arrive.

Thanks for the update, heading into the park tomorrow. We have tons of repellent and a bug shelter, so we hoping for the best.

Ive been on a 7 person tent where we all brought our own tents, it worked out nicely and i don't think we would have been able to set up a large tent on the sites we stayed on.

IMO everyone having their own tent is easier to setup unless you know you're going to have a large area to set it up on.

I accessed at Magnetawan down the Petawawa into Misty. As I arrived back at the dock when I was leaving I saw 5 separate woman all in shorts and tank tops with not one bug flying over them. Meanwhile there was an ominous black cloud
( black flies ) circling me. Everyone of the woman were using bug spray and I,stupidly, settled for just a bug jacket on this trip. Never again!

Ah i see, well ill be lathering deep woods all day long so lets hope for the best.

I don't know which June picture scares me more: 80 bites or 5 separate woman on the dock wearing tank tops.

i don't know about you but 5 women in shorts and tank tops sounds pretty good to me.

Bring more than a bug jacket! I have about 80 bites from my last trip the weekend before last and all I used was a bug jacket. Every time I opened the hatch to take a drink or eat, a 100 of them would fly in and latch on. The only positive note was I had a whole lot of entertainment squishing them inside my jacket ha ha.They may have got my blood but I had the last laugh!

This scares me, i'm going in 2 weeks, where did you stay?

The worst scene I've encountered was last spring at Highview Cabin, looked like a mess left over from the fall, They'd burned all the cabin chairs, the broom, basically anything that wasn't nailed down.  They were careful though NOT to burn or take out any of the 80 or so beer cans which were left all over the site, they also left the coolers they used to bring in the beer in garbage bags behind the cabin.....

That's an absolute shame. There are some really shitty people in this world.

I guess to look on the bright side, they didn't burn the cabin itself down?

Some people are just so entitled. I had a similar experience that i posted here, with people who were on a site they were supposed to be on, and it really sucks being out there with no way to resolve the situation, especially with unreasonable people. You really just want to hurt some one or break some of their shit, but in the end it's only going to make it worst.

Best thing to do is move on and forget about it and remember why you're in the park.

Damn man that's a situation you never want to be in or see someone else in. What were they wearing? im surprised they ended up ok after being in the water for 15mins. And do you know how they tipped?

Good on you for helping them out!

I usually drink whiskey straight, or chase it down with some iced tea made from the powdered mix.

As for during the day, i usually bring some gatorade powder mix and alternate between that and water.

Sometime's i've drank quite a bit the night before and i've never gotten a hang over in the park. My body just says no time for a hangover, it's canoeing time.

Hello all,

Just want to get some experiences with what type of food you  would usually bring with you. I have generally always brought dehydrated meals, or stuff like sidekicks or rice mixes, but i've seen a lot of trip reports where people bring steaks, sausage, bacon, eggs and all that delicious food.

Basically just wondering whats your usual real to dehydrated food ratio. Do you bring real food for just first night? or the whole trip? I would think it adds significant weight? What's your preferred method to carry all that food? coolers? barrel? If you're with someone, do you combine gear and have one person carry the food, and the other guy carry the gear?

Thanks!
