Not stocked but LOTR is probably the best trout lake on the corridor. I've caught a few Lakers there and one brook trout. There was someone who used to post here who ran Trout fishing classes on LOTR. He never failed to catch fish there on his courses.

You could also try the Oxtongue R. for Brook Trout. I would put in at Pine Landing and paddle up to Whisky Rapids. Then Portage into Westard and try your luck.

I've been skunked on all the stocked lakes along the corridor.

That's Greg Betteridge and he can catch trout if there are trout. His technique is unstoppable.

Now that is a bucket list trip!

If you are a Brook Trout fisherman for sure it should be on your bucket but beware it will spoil brook trout fishing everywhere else.

They managed to last the whole 10 day trip and caught hundreds of brook trout including some real beast like my sons personal best 24 incher...

Nice looking trout!

May i ask which brand of hip waders your son chose?  And which outfitter you chose? Thanks!

There is only one outfitter who services the Sutton river and that is Hearst Air. I can't remember the make of his waders sorry. I will do the trip again someday but not the whole river. Who knew catching trophy brook trout all day long could get boring.

Not my pic but a friends of a caribou eating blueberries in front of a rainbow. We met up with Andrew a day after this pic was taken.

I've never encountered one in the park but I've come literally face to face with one in Labrador. I decided it would be easier to climb this embankment http://www.erichall.eu/images/1010/1010486.jpg   on the East Branch of the Wilson river than wade against the current under the bridge. There was a large blueberry patch on the other side of the road and a big boar(that's how close I was) heard me scrambling up the rocks. He peaked over the edge just as my head came to road level. Our faces were maybe 2 ft away from each other. We both took off in opposite direction but he moved faster (hence my ability to identify the bears sex). Also once my buddy and I were making camp on a trip down the Kowkash River in NW ontario and had 4 different bears wander into our camp before we could even get the tent set up. Our solution was to drink copius amounts of vodka and river water so oif we had a nasty encounter we at least wouldn't feel anything. I'm happy that this summer the only polar bears I saw(you have to be armed on this trip for protection) were as our plane took off and then we saw 6.

Fishing » Pen bass? » 5/30/2018 5:55 pm

For years Manitou was said to have bass but wasn't listed in the book. We never caught any but I always figured it was too early in the season and they just weren't active. Now people catch them there all the time. Seeing how its part of the Mad and is downstream of other lakes that have bass my guess is they must certainly be there. Sorry to contradict you Greg but you know how insidious bass are.

Damn, just when I was feeling confident about my no-mosquito-netting sleep system, you had to go and spoil it with that.

Love how AT is so determined to get us to 400 posts on this thread! Keep 'em coming!

Damn that looks tasty.

Mike back in the day we use to fish the outflow of Bruce nuke and would always have to push our tinny that way over Baie du ore till we broke through we would wear our 5mm neoprene and you could kind of tell when the ice was going to break.

Check out these guys I seen on Pimisi Lake yesterday. The first portage of the Mattawa River is on the far shore just slightly to the right of the photo. That's where they were headed. Funny thing is I know they weren't the first people to run the entire Mattawa this Spring. Bill Steer ran the River from Pimisi to Mattawa on May 1st.
There were also around 10-12 kayakers playing in the Amable Du Fond yesterday, beside Highway 630 around the snowmobile trail crossing.

I can remember doing stuff like this in the park back in the 80's when we would get our pemits regardless for opening week.

This is all great news. Can't wait for my shift to end tomorrow. Looking at that latest modis image I should be able to find open fishable water.
