What is this strange beast of the deep?

Found this guy on Faya Lake crawling under water along a rock. It had a body that resembled a segmented stick (you can see the colour differences of the segments) with no visible fins or legs and out of one end, a round head with appendages that seemed to be propelling it. It looked like a tiny crab towing a worm.



Insect? Crustacean? Some kind of lamprey? Apologies for the picture quality but this is very zoomed in and the beast is under a foot of water.

Most likely a caddisfly larvae. These insects build a case around their body while larvae which looks a bit strange if you haven't seen them before.

Spicol I saw one on Mag last weekend.  Had never seen one before either and wondered what it was. Thank you to rob for the answer!
