Petawawa Upstream (Grassy Bay to Misty) - Ice Out

This brief January thaw has me thinking about ice out and trip planning for late April/early May.

I'm considering a route that will take me upstream on the Pet from Grassy Bay to Misty.  Has anyone done this section in that direction that time of year?  How much will the high water factor into travel times going against the current?

I've gone upriver from Misty to Daisy in the spring, but I haven't done the stretch between Misty and Grassy before and don't know what to expect.

Thanks.

I did this trip the opposite way last year and other than a few locations closer to misty the current didn't really exist much. I would think its doable but may be a slog and you may need to wade or line

You won't have any issues with current.  I think your biggest problem will be the road into Mag being passable at that time of year.  Depending on how the rest of the winter plays out, it's often washed out/flooded that time of year.  I had to change plans last year as the road was not open for my trip dates.

Re: Petawawa Upstream (Grassy Bay to Misty) - Ice Out

Did this last year on the May long weekend, no issues whatsoever. Lots of water, but the river is wide enough that the current is not an issue. If you are not familiar, there is an awesome campsite just up from the P140 into Timberwolf Creek. Top shelf spot and won't have to paddle around Misty looking for a free campsite (done that a time or two as well!)
