2010 Solo Trip To Shirley Lake

As winter lays ahead, I thought I'd share some photos from a solo trip way back in 2010 .. an effort to mentally skip ahead to summer time!

Thanks for sharing the photos Barry. Here, where I am, the trees are covered with a layer of ice, so it's nice to see some summer scenes.

Re: 2010 Solo Trip To Shirley Lake

Enjoyed the pics, Barry, thanks!
My one and only trip to Shirley was when I took my (then) fiance (now wife) on her first canoe trip....in June (should have known better) 2000 for a long weekend.

On our last morning, when we woke up, I heard chainsaws in the distance.  Then I realized those chainsaws were mosquitoes outside the tent.  I don't think I've ever cleared a campsite so fast.  We were prepared for bugs, but not at the armargeddon level.  we paddled clear of them, but upon arriving at the portage....the most mosquitoes I had ever, or have ever encountered.  It was out of control.  We unloaded the canoe while getting absolutely chowed. I put a pack on her back and said "GO!"  I was stuck though, had to tie something to the other backpack.  15-20 mosquitoes were between the cuff of my shirt and the tips of my fingers, I smeared the ones off the left into a pulp, then the ones on the right, and there was already a new batch on the left.  I had to let them have their way with me while I got loaded up, and scrambled out of there.  After that, we hardly encountered any mosquitoes at all.  Strangest thing.

25 years later my sister still says "...and she still married you."

Thanks for your past trip to that part of the park Barry! Brought back memories of my 1st time decades ago jumping off at Farm. FWIW I'm trying to work on a trip with my brother to go back in that area where I was 1st introduced to this great park many years ago !
