…another post from Algonquin BaseCamp

• short version —Rain Lake access road was inaccessible due to snow & one sinkhole which they warn may get worse until it is repaired.

Re: Ice Out predictions?

Found official word__

Both Magnetawan and Rain access roads are closed.
All others are open…
Official advice is 4z4 to all other access points

Pretty funny that they list the Aylen Lake access point as requiring a 4x4 vehicle.   That access point is at the end of a paved road that is plowed and maintained by South Algonquin Township.   Even the unofficial access point beside our cabin would have been accessible by a two wheel drive vehicle last weekend though there were a few spots with ice and snow.

Thank you for your post yellowcanoe. Good news, much appreciated! Wanted to know the condition of North Aylen road and your comment was very helpful. Thanks again!

Cheers, Dwight

Re: Ice Out predictions?

I am booked for an easy trip on Galeairy for the long weekend in May due to some minor health issues.

I plan on camping on one of the Historical sites at the east end of Galeairy diagonally opposite Purcell's Cove.

If anyone in the area wishes to pay me a visit, a beverage of some kind is guaranteed.

Happy canoeing and fishing to all!!
