I did a quick overnight to Kingscote last week to kick off the season. My first extended backcountry trip is coming up in a couple of weeks, but this was a great way to start the year. We spent a night on Kingscote and paddled up to the Minnow Lakes. Checked out a bunch of sites as well and determined that even though we had decided to stay on one of the walk-in sites, we'd still managed to get the second best site of the ones we'd seen (which doesn't say a lot for the sites we visited). The trip report is here:

A great read as always. If forgetting a water filter at a portage is the worst thing that happens to you this season, it'll be a pretty good season! I've always had a theoretical interest in checking out the Kingcote area, but every time I stare at a map of the area it just looks... unexciting. And no loops to be found. But I'll get there one day.

That was my feeling about Kingscote as well. I’ve always figured I’d explore the area on a top to bottom trip, or from somewhere along Highway 60 down. But for an early season basecamp? Works pretty well
