Anyone else bring one on extended trips? I take a printed weather sheet along on every multi day outing, but on extended trips I enjoy the up-to-date broadcast weather reports. I used to own a hand-crank type NOAA radio but seem to have lost it along the way. I'm looking to replace it and have found this inexpensive one that requires batteries. It's a little lighter and less bulkier than the crank style too. And I don't mind the batteries since I'll likely use it once a day or so.

I also bring a Weather Radio for trips lasting more than several days. I have an old school hand cranked one with a built in flashlight. However, it's taking an awful lot of cranking for minimal results and part of the antenna has broken off which doesn't help with the already questionable reception. This looks like a good replacement!

I find the reports provided on my Garmin inreach mini to be pretty accurate.

I currently use this one
It’s okay. Really hard to get signal most times. Not sure if it’s the radio’s problem or the fact so many towers have been shut down, they are too far apart. Never had two radios side by side to compare. I just like it because it can be powered by multiple sources for emergency situations. I’m guessing the one you listed will most likely get better signal though.

Hey Shawn, I also have the Garmin inReach Explorer Plus which I absolutely enjoy, but like the idea of having the option of listening to a broadcast during a rain day or wind bound.

That's pretty pricey for a device that rarely works. I just ordered the one above. I'll let you know how it performed end of May.

I used weather reports when on Lake Huron but don’t worry so much in Algonquin.
