My brother Tom and I went for a trip this September to go see the Barron Canyon and the High Falls Water Park. We started from Achray and stayed on Cork Lake for three nights. Part 1 of the series is below for your viewing pleasure!

Which site did you get on Cork? I love the southernmost site there.

Southern site. We went to Cork because of the trip log you wrote. Thanks for the good review! It was worth it!

Ah the good old days when canoes weighed more than you : ) We were in the area aug/sept and saw one or maybe two juvenile bears at the bottom (south end) of Grand Lake on the sand peninsula where you head into Stratton Campsites in that area are crazy for coolers and other stuff left lying around. Cork has been on my radar since Drew posted about it as well, thanks for the extra footage. Looking forward to 2nd part. Nice work on the Temagami trip as well, that looked like a real effort.

Pretty cool you saw bears in there. We wanted to explore in that area but it looked to be a sacred site so we kept going. The camp sites were surprisingly clean. But after hearing the stories from this summer, I wasn’t going to be surprised by much. You need to go to Cork! Feels deep interior but is easily accessible. The site we stayed at was pretty good too. Thanks for watching the Temagami series! Yeah it was a crazy trip with a lot of firsts. We’re excited to go back again sometime in the near future!

Part 2 takes us to the Barron Canyon for some scenic views.

Part 3 takes us on a day trip to High Falls off of Stratton Lake. Long steep portages make things interesting. Enjoy!

Great videos. Perfect way to kill a rainy day!
I'm guessing your Brother is a Firefighter?? Wondering where he got his toque and how I can get my hands on one lol!! The boys at the hall would be envious.

Thanks! He is a firefighter. He does FireFit so I’m sure he got it at a competition or someone gave it to him.

Last video of the series is up on my YouTube page. We head out, stopping at some places like the railway and the Barron Canyon lookout trail. For anyone who has been watching, thank you for tuning in and I hope you enjoyed the journey!

Thanks for the TR Matt! Good footage of the area. We have spent a lot of time around here but haven't made it to Cork. Although a nice site, based on your tent spot would we have trouble getting two medium size tents set up comfortably? How was swimming if it was warmer - not too swampy?
I am a folder for sure and would have gone with option #2 especially with the 90lb canoe.
And if you haven't come across the before, the McElroys have a lot of great material on the area including some information on the High Falls fire which is what you were seeing in part:

Thanks for watching the series GordK! You could most likely setup three tents but two are bowls and one other spot is down by the water and very exposed to the wind. Make sure they are free standing because the whole area is a few centimetres of dirt on top of rock. Swimming was great! The rock ledge my brother jumped off of was deep. One of the better sites to swim because we didn’t have to walk down into the water. Thanks for that link! I will check it out and send it off to my brother. Being a firefighter, he will be all over that. Thanks!
