Taken from a portage landing...

Re: WiA 299

I'll narrow it down with it being low maintenance - that kind of grass and lack of erosion indicates exceptionally low traffic.  I'll eliminate one lake with a guess that I don't think I've ever seen the lake name mentioned on AA...is it Kabibonoka Lake?

Edit:  That lake name has only ever appeared once on AA - in the list with every lake that MartinG posted in 2016:

Or is it a spring picture with high water over the usual worn down portage landing?

Re: WiA 299

This would be a bit too frequently-traveled a lake for a Peek WIA selection, but is that the southern portage on Shirley?  It looks rockier than I remember (19 years ago), but my memory of that entrance is clouded by the most heartless mosquito encounter I ever faced.  (Also, Peek - could you check you inbox - I sent you a question a couple days ago hoping you can help me with).

No to both ;) which eliminates the next two guesses as well.

Also not Shirley. MWD, sorry, I never notice the inbox and always get PMs late because of this. I'll check it out right now.

Re: WiA 299

Looks like something in the more northern part of the Park - not necessarily low maintenance, just a muddy, bouldery takeout, and there are plenty of them.  The lake looks familiar (don't they all), but I have no idea which one it is.  Good one, Peek.

Re: WiA 299

Lol thanks Diana. You'd be correct in your statement about it looking more like the northern end - but as you know, I like to spend most of my time in AP above Opeongo or higher, so it could be any northern lake ;)

Though you and Bob may (probably?) have been here in the past, I don't think I've ever seen either of you mention here or on any other forum or your website.

Re: WiA 299

North cuckoo? Oops, did not see the earlier post about it being not a low maintenance route, prior to posting!

Re: WiA 299

Indeed, not North Cuckoo.

It's definitely north of 60. And to get to this exact spot, going in the same direction that I was, you could go from one of two different access points and it would be the same number of portages either way..

Timberwolf to Misty?

Re: WiA 299

Not Timberwolf..

John you are on the right track.. same number of portages from two different access points.. but in my case, regardless of where you start, it would be 12 portages to get to this spot (keep in mind, travelling in the same direction as me) so last last few (erm, 9 portages) would be the same, regardless of what access point you choose to being - only the first 3 would be different, the last 9 would be the same.

Re: WiA 299

Not Catfish, though she is a beaut!

The access points in question are the first and the last on the list of canoeing access points.
