Hey everyone,
Hope everyone who went out last week had a good first trip of the season. Mine was, unfortunately, much much shorter than planned. My original plan was a five day loop through the Northwest part of the Park. What I ended up doing was ... not that. Still, it was great to get out and I can't wait to hit the water again some time soon. For now, here's my report:

Sorry to hear the weather didn't cooperate. It was definitely a cold and wet few days in there. I, somewhat magically, seemed to miss much of the wet stuff even while being told by others I passed how incredibly hard it rained. I mean I still got plenty, but it mostly happened while I was fast asleep.
On the topic of staying near shore: I always swear I'm going to, and about half an hour into a trip I give up on that plan. As you wrote, following the edge of a lake adds an incredible amount of time to the journey - although of course it's also the smart thing to do. I do wear a wetsuit, which might prolong my death somewhat if I ever dump in the middle of a lake.

Thanks Uppa,
Yeah, I’m the same way with the edge following for the most part. I have good intentions, then reality sets in and those intentions fly out the window. It actually helped having a friend along who hasn’t done much spring paddling and who was a bit nervous about the open water since it kept me closer to the shore than I probably would have otherwise.
