Hi Folks,
My son and I are doing an 8 or 9 day loop out of Cedar in a couple weeks. I was wondering what peoples preference is between Little Osler and Osler? Any advice on campsites on either lake?
Our plan was to go from Erables to Nadine mid trip but I've been reading a bit about that stretch on here and I think I'd prefer to make a stop in between. We have the time to add a day in anyway.
Regards,
Mike

To the best of my recollection (and someone with a better memory will come along soon I'm sure), the campsites on all the lakes between Erables and Nadine are okay at best, and most of them are downright lousy.
I stayed on Osler for the same reason you're talking about. I have no memory whatsoever of the campsite I stayed on, but a video I recorded on Nadine has me saying all the Osler campsites were crap. I remember not checking out the two northern sites on Little Osler (after Heart Attack Hill, side trips were not on the menu) so perhaps one of them is nice.

Yes, Erables to Nadine would be a very long and tiresome day. I think after you portage heart attack hill, Little Osler will probably seem like heaven and thus a good spot to camp.
I have camped on all three lakes. Little Osler has better campsites than Osler, and Nadine has a couple of GREAT campsites that are better than Little Osler and Osler. Anyways, that is my opinion from a many years ago.
If you are fishing, I can't say anything here because the lakes are small and I will get into trouble. PM me if you wish some fishing information.

Portaging this route in the opposite direction - from Nadine to Erables - is much easier, but you might know it already. Not exactly easy, but easier. In my recollection south-western site on Osler looked attractive from the water, but it was long ago and my memory could play tricks with me.

I have only stayed on one campsite on Little Osler, and it was less than ideal. This was the one to the left once you come off of Heart Attack Hill, and we basically gave up on the day at that point. Looking back I wish we pushed on. The campsite is set back from the water, and was a bit swampy behind and the bugs were intense. We sat and ate and drank under a mosquito net most of the night, and then just gave up and went to bed. Normally bugs don't get at me, but after the long day of portaging from Club to Little Osler, the less than ideal campsite and no fire to boost the spirits this was not a very positive night.
That being said, we did enjoy paddling Osler and Nadine is a gem.... safe paddles!

Thank you all for the responses.
Uppa, your triplog is part of what sparked my concern in the first place.
We do have a layover day planned on Nadine so I may just push to Nadine if the conditions are in our favour. The rest of the trip is somewhat leisurely to allow time for fishing etc. That, by far, will be our toughest day. It will be day 4 so hopefully the rust will be shaken off by then. We do plan to single portage as much as possible.
boknows, thank you for the offer of advice re. fishing...I'll pm you
Regards,
Mike
