Hi Folks!,
Can anyone recommend a place to get my canoe repaired? Ideally somewhere 'relatively' close to York region... My boat's got sun damage along keel...:-(. I was thinking Holy Cow Canoe, but thought I'd first throw out the question for anything recommended/closer...
Apologies if this one has been asked in another post already.
Many thanks in advance :-)
Side note: Will definitely be re-jigging the sun coverage for my boat storage!

What do you mean by "sun damage"? Fading of the gel coat isn't something that would require a repair.

I mean this...:-(

Hmmm, looks like there might have been an earlier patch in the bottom left of the picture that was painted over. Is it possible the paint is peeling now? Or are you seeing fibers through the cracks along the keel?

Thanks Rob... It's not a patch - Skid plate :-) Yup - Am seeing the fibers :-(

Ok, then you are correct a repair is probably needed. Holy Cow is worth talking to, I have no idea if they do repairs or not.
If you're interested, it's not that hard to do yourself. Depending on the quality/age/value of the canoe you can just use fibreglass cloth and epoxy from Canadian Tire. Alternatively Noah's Marine has the materials including West Systems epoxy which is still the most common choice canoes.

Kleinburg in in York Region and Ed Ziemba might do it. He restores wooden canoes but composites might be doable. Worth a look anyway... contact info at page bottom.
PS... or he might be able to refer you to another repair shop in the area. Marinas and boat shops will often have fiberglass repair staff, shouldn't be a problem.
